I personally find Biofreeze to be good on my ribs when sore.

I also found, personally, that taking magnesium and Vitamin D3 long-term has cut down on the aches but this is something that needs to build up in the body. Osteomalacia often manifests itself as a constant dull ache, sometimes a sharp pain, in the sternum and ribs. Sometimes the sternum can be sore to touch and Osteomalacia is often a sympton of chronic Vitamin D deficiency.

Hot packs are best used alternating with ice packs. You can read how to do this here:

I have also found that doing stretching exercises for my upper chest and back to be very beneficial. Some I googled, others I made up myself. You really need to wor out what works best for you but I, personally, do lots of slow, gentle movements when I stretch my arms high above my head and hold, or out in front of my chest and stretch and hold, or behind my back and hold.

This helps to loosen the chest muscles and makes the ribs/chest more flexible.
