My sons asthma has been playing up this week and i have had to give him quite alot of ventolin. Today i noticed that his lips were tinged blue not there normal pink colour.
he is fine in himself but just coughing lots and needing his ventolin. Is this anything to worry about ?????
Blue lips is a sign that the body is not receiving enough oxygen. Your son needs to see a doctor asap.

Blue lips in someone with asthma, particularly a child, is potentially a very serious sign.
Your son needs to be seen and assessed by a doctor this evening - we cannot see your child, or provide any detailed medical assessment, over the internet.
Please contact your out-of-hours GP service or take your son to A&E ASAP.

Firstly YES! Blue tinged lips are a sign that oxygen levels in the blood are low! This is a very serious sign and given your son isnt well and using lots of ventolin you need to get him off to hospital where they can get his asthma stable and give him oxygen to get his oxygen levels back up!
Secondly i dont want to sound mean as you obviously wanted help and advice for your son which is totally understandable but it could take a while for a response from someone on hear which is not good in an emergency situation - if your ever in any doubt about anything that is potentially this serious seek emergency help rather than ask here we cant see your son and cant truly appreciate the situation therefore it would be wrong to offer any medical advice other than to say go to the a and e department of the local hospital or see a dr on call!
That said oxygen levels usually have to be quite low to make lips appear blue so please get some medical attention for your son. Good luck and Hope he gets better soon.

Just wanted to add that yes I agree with everyone to get him seen ASAP as if it is his asthma, it is serious. But also that I have had my eldest to the gp before when he was much yonger, for blue lips, this was before he had asthma (or at least before we knew he had asthma) and the gp said it was normal for the lips to turn blue when they are cold and not to worry. Again this was before he had Asthma symptoms and was otherwise fine. Best to always play on the safe side and get him checked. Hope he is ok!
he lips have returned to normal and he is a bit rattlely in his chest. but apart from that he is fine. i wanted to contact the doc but my partner said he was ok has he was looking after him last night. If it happens again i will defo get medical advice
