I wondered if anyone else has the same problems as me. Besides having chronic asthma I have problems breathing through my mouth and nose making my asthma worse. Doctors tend to flippantly, ingnore me when I tell them that being unable to breath properly through my nose and mouth, makes my asthma worse. I am so frustrated and struggling to cope as believe it or not, sometimes it is far worse than my asthma. Any advice truly appreciated.

Problems with nose and throat.
No advice as such but know where you are coming from. Have tried to explain this to GPs many a time. Sometimes find it almost too hard to sook in the inhaler puff.
Not tried it myself but there's something called a netipot that might help - basically rinses the inside of your nose with a saline solution.
Regarding the netipot mentioned by Grannymo - my husband uses a nasal rinse (NeilMed) and it's really helped his blocked nose. You can get a netipot but he uses the squeezy bottle which comes with the NeilMed pack (Boots used to sell the pack but doesnt now so we purchase it from Amazon).
It was actually recommended by an ENT consultant for my son who has asthma, hayfever and rhinitis, but he couldnt get on with it. Then my husband discovered it and he uses the rinse most days and thinks it's great! Don't know if it will help you but is worth a try.
My cons told me that not breathing correctly, for whatever reason, can actually make e.g. your o2 sats drop, so it's no wonder you're feeling worse. I would definitely try to raise the suggestions below with your dr; I have a nasal spray which does help a bit.
I suggest you talk to your asthma nurse. They are usually more receptive than a GP.
I was given Flixonase Nasule Drops as I have allergic rhinitus. They do help but on occassion cause my voice to go. But at least it helps me to breathe more easily.
Keep pestering and you will eventually get results.
Take care.
Dave.
thank you
Thank you all so much for your responses & advice. It's true what they say about a problem shared.
It might be worth asking you GP if they can can refer you to see a respiratory physiotherpist as they may be able to suggest some breathing excercises which may be able to help. An ENT appointment may also help to tweak your meds and check out any problems you may have... It is not nice having the asthma and also not being able to breathe through you nose...
Sounds like you might be having panic attacks which commonly feel like your throat is closing up. I used to suffer from them a lot when I was younger but found that by putting my head under a quilt or jumper, it felt warm and seemed to calm me down and make me breathe easier.
Do you suffer from hayfever or allergic rhinitis? These can also make your nose feel stuffy and again cause breathing problems. I use a nasal spray such as beconase but check with your GP/pharmacist before using it. If your doctor isn't much help, you could always try a local pharmacist (Boots ones are very useful) if you don't attend an asthma clinic for advice.
