Allergy question

Can anyone tell me what ""poly"" means in ""polysensitive""? A letter from the allergy clinic says I'm ""polysensitive"" to areoallergens. It doesn't really matter as I'm too allergic to too many things for them to to anything, unless things get a lot worse. I just want to understand what he means.

:) Tina

Poly means many. Polygon = a shape with many sides, so I'd guess polysensitivities = many sensitivities.

Unless they mean you're allergic to parrots... :p

Thanks Ratty

I was hoping it was a bit more meaningful, in a medical sense, but I suspect your right.

I am allergic to parrots (or their feathers) but the medics haven't tested for that so they probably won't recognise it as an allergy. Am starting to get the impression that an allergy isn't recognised unless they've scientifically proved it.

Sorry - mild rant - they can't do much more to help with my allergies but allergy clinic think a referral to dermatology for patch testing is a good idea. Am struggling to see why, I know what I'm allergic to and can smell things I'm allergic to most times! Think I trust my nose more than their tests anyhow.

Poly does mean many, multiple etc as in Polygon = a many sided shape, polyglot = someone who speaks many languages, Polygamy = many wives, polyandry = many husbands!

Opposite is Mono = single.

So, multiple sensitivities. Allergic to more than one thing.

Allergies don't always have to be scientifically proven by Health care professionals with tests if you know that when you eat something you react and you can pin point it, though it helps.
