Just started on theophylline and I wondered whether you can drink alcohol with it. The GP didn't say anything about alcohol and the label doesn't say anything but the leaflet inside says to discuss with your GP if you intend to drink alcohol.

Iv been taking theophylinn for years, I take the slo-phylinn tablets.
I find that I am able to drink with them, I think I notice my heart rate going up a little but apart from that I have never had any problems. It might be a good idea to check with your doctor though just incase!

I've been on uniphyllin for 10 years and have had alcohol with it many times and have had no averse effects. The things you need to watch out for are drinking too much coffee or eating too much dark chocolate as this can cause a raised level of caffeine which, when combined with theophylline can cause undesirable effects like fast heartbeat and tremor etc
