hi everyone

sorry this a bit unpleasant, but i've had nits for about 3 months now and i still can't get rid of the little b***ers! i've tried everything from lyclear nit spray, wet combing, dry combing and using extra conditioner and nothing seems to work! just wondering if anyone had any tips on how to get rid of them, would be much appreciated!

Hi Lejaya,

Poor you, they're a pain aren't they! I've heard it said that they hate tea tree oil (and who can blame them!). I recommend mixing some teatree oil into your conditioner and smothering it in your hair and then asking someone to comb it through with a nit comb. You need to do it several nights in a row to get rid of all the eggs though...sorry :(

ps depending on how sensitive your skin is (cuz lots of us asthmatics are atopic and allergic to everything eh!) you might wanna dilute the tea tree oil first!

hi, thanks for the reply, will give it a try at the weekend! i think the main problem is that my cause my hair is so long and thick it makes it even more difficult to get them out! i'm starting to think i might never get rid of them! lol

Its one of those annoyances that can come from group contact with children. Like in a playgroup or classroom. Worms, I remember, is another one.

Best wishes with the tea tree.

When my son had a particularly stubborn case of the little beggars my husband decided to hoover them out. The idea was that the heat would kill the eggs and the vacuum would suck the live ones up. might be worth a go.

Vacuuming nits? LOL!

I doubt you would remove the nits, though the odd head louse may get sucked up if you are using a powerfull cleaner ( eg a dyson) I vacuumed up fleas once but I fitted a flea collar in the dyson cyclone so that they would be killed and not hop out!

My sister once used a small hand held dustbuster to hoover up some ants in the house..... the were seen marching out the end a few minutes later!

Back to nit busting.... do weekly with the conditioner, use lots of cheap stuff and comb like mad. I use a bit of tea tree oil, a couple of drops on a comb and combed through when been around nitty kids as a repellent.

You may have to continue to nit bust for a good few months to evict the critters.

Short hair not alwasy nit proof, have know someone with a crew cut with nits & lice hanging on for dear life!

PS they like clean hair!

I know it sounded mad but it did work.We haven't seen them since

thanks for all the relpys, have been nit combing daily at the moment to try and get rid of all the live ones then will be trying the tea tree oil tommorrow, im just hoping they go soon cause it's really embarassing having to scratch all the time cause it's so itchy!!
