Hello please can you help us to solve this question, what is the next number, 20, 1, 18, 4,13.

It is driving us mad, its the only quesion we can't answer on our Church just for fun quiz sheet. Thank you ever so, a not mathematically minded at all Lois.

Hmm just for fun quiz my a..., its driving me mad, i can't work it out! but then neither can a Doctor, a Headteacher a science teacher, 2 accountants and a social worker. So for once its not just me, Bex congratulations on your first victory of the season - we played as badly as last season so its a good job your team weren't on form or we would have lost 6.2. We need some new players, looks like we're going to be in the drop zone again this season unless something very dramatic happens, AARGH.

Lois, it is always worth wondering if the biggest and lowest numbers are the start and end of the sequence. Once I had that it was easy.

Bex

Is it 17? Probably not as i am the dosiest of the dosy at maths, please, please put me out of my misery or give me another clue (bearing in mind i failed CSE Maths) thanx Bex. You should take pity on a fellow footie fan who unlike you is not basking in victory but saying hello to the lower end of the table yet again... a desperate Lois

Lois, if you scroll down on my 1st reply I do give the answer. You need not to think maths. Actually you need to think sports, well some call it sport but the players don't have wear shorts and their bodies leave a lot to be desired most of the time :)

Don't get too downhearted we have Ipswich next Saturday and they tonked Sheffeild Wednesday today eeek.

Bex

Bex you are a star! Thank you sooo much, that question has been driving us mad, thank you, thank you - its a just for fun quiz but because it was the only answer we hadn't got it was driving us crazy. Thanks again, Lois

20, 1, 18, 4,13. 9, 4,

Starting with 20. Gap is 2 to 18, double the 1.

After 18 is 4, double the gap between 20 & 18, add the 1 gives 13.

Next is 9, double the 4 plus 1, subtracted from 13 gives 4
