HI emma

this is true, i can defo feel wheezing when i place my hands over my chest. feels like vibration, leaves crackling i think if that makes sense lol, some times at same time or before i wheeze audibly and other times i dont wheeze audibly at all, just 'feel' it

whayyy. lol. whenever i say to doctors i feel wheezy, they seem to give me weird looks. sort of difficult explaining to them that i feel wheezy, but dont sound it. cheers for the reply, good to know im not alone on this one.

yea difficult explaining to them ini especially when sometimes u dont wheeze when they listen with stethoscope!

also, i have been asked - do u feel wheezy? i answer yes, well u dont sound it lol. y ask then! or

do u feel wheezy? no, cos u sounding wheezy. or do u feel wheezy? yes, nebs! lol

always varies depending on doc listening and how well they know ur history and u get the usual comment as well 'you know ur asthma better than we do'

u ever had that??

i tell them that i dont get wheezy, but often got told ive got bad airflow, get my chest checked & told i DO have a wheeze, then get asked why i say i dont get wheezy.. probably has something to do with the fact i dont have a stethoscope to check my own chest to see if i am wheezy or not before they ask? its stupid the amount of times ive been told im not wheezy, because it doesnt tend to be an audible wheeze. FINALLY got it through to doctors at the hospital that i dont get [audibly] wheezy after getting discharged a fair bit with just my inhalers. >.<

hmmm... so rather than audible wheeze, with yourself its more 'feeling' wheezy and now + again, wheeze on auscultion (with a stethoscope).

with me, i feel wheezy now + again, and likewise am audibly wheezy now + again so make sure i tell docs that dont know me in costa - i dont always wheeze!!

I can feel the wheeze if I put my hands on my lower ribs - not always but feels different if I am poorly to when I am well. I also feel my chest being bubbly...not sure what that means either.

I more often than not get told i have an upper respiratory wheeze, what the blinking heck is this?

upper respiratory wheeze

charlie_warlie,

An upper respiratory wheeze is i believe anything above the lungs i.e trachea, epiglottis, or larynx for example, some common potential causes being hypoventilation, panic, etc. non common causes being something like VCD, Laryngomalacia etc. if they suspect a wheeze caused by this they like to scope you with a camera for a definitive diagnosis.

Think of it like when you get an infection, an upper respiratory infection, meaning, nose, sinus, throat etc, lower respiratory infection meaning your lungs, a chest infection.

they done that and said it was all clear, well i requested it becuase I got fed up with them saying i was panicing and wanted it proven and the ENT person agreed with me and said all upper air way section is perfect and that it was definatly a wheeze from my lungs (I got them to do whilst having a wheezy time)...and then still say i have a chest infec or say i have reduced air entry and pile me with all the asthma rescue drugs possible?! im so confused.com ... each doc is different...the other great one is they try working out my wheeze and then it disappears...and they look at me as if to say where did it go...then realise ooo bottoms shes getting worse and the airways constrict to much...ended up in ITU those times!!

(doc thought at one time the steroids was causing a floppy airway making it more difficult to breath) ive been through the mill of inspecting my breath pipes!! live testing rat i think they think i am!

I've felt the bubbling too and have wondered what it is?!

Also have felt a clicky feeling on my lower left part of lung. Anyone had this?? What is it? When I went to gp he sd he could hear inflammation.?!

Emily, think I've had the clicking thing on the left as well and possibly the right, but I didn't really pay much attention to it. Wonder what it is though? Drs never seem to hear anything in my chest, but then it seems guaranteed that either I will have an appt at the time of day when my lungs are best or any symptoms will mysteriously disappear in time for the appt.

i always get given appointments mid day...and this is when im at my best and they always say...wow you look and sound amazing...then i say you should meet my other have at evening/night lol

ive had that clicking before...i was thankfully in hospital at the time, and they done a chest xray and for my they found at the time i had something like a raised right sided hemidiaphram...cant remember it exactly so dont qoute me on it!!! i had another chest xray a week later when the clicking went and the diaphram thinkgy had gone...and they still dont know what caused it...they queried whether it was a trapped nerve or inflammed intercostal muscle!

Yes I can feel wheezy even when I have no audible wheeze. The air feels as if it is getting stuck on the way out, it's hard to describe. It is often when I seem to have lots of mucus on my lungs. However I also have times when I'm just really tight and breathless and don't feel wheezy at all. Have only had a doctor hear a wheeze when listening to chest once and that was just after my worst attack, other than that chest always sounds clear but agree that I feel worst before about 10am and then after about 6.30 so appointment would never catch it.

M wondering if the clicking was a pleural rub/pleurisy type thing. As I guess it would be inflamed and rub/click every breath. In the past, I've had pleurisy but I can't remember if the click was there then!!!!

Hi all,

I get so mad when the doctors say you haven't got a wheeze so you must be fine but there you are struggling to breathe and feeling like you've been beaten up! Glad I'm not alone though:)

Xx

I hate the no wheeze therefore nothing wrong thing too!

Emily, was yours persistent or just occasional? I didn't really think anything of mine as it just clicks a couple of times once every so often but is mostly not there so I didn't think it could be pleurisy or anything like that.

The click I felt was persistent over a few days and was at the base of my lung.

I am 'feeling' wheezy today but I can't hear anything.my pf down, sob etc so know I feel naff, just odd that I feel it but can't hear it. Would others be able to hear it or would you need a stethescope? Last time I felt like this I saw doc but of course felt better when I got in there!

Hi,

Not 100% sure but this seems possible - some wheezes can be heard by anyone, others only with a stethoscope - would think the less 'obvious' kind could be felt as it is there but is just not as noisy? So typical of course that you feel better when at the drs. Any wheeze I ever had has always gone and hidden just in time for appts - doesn't help that they're often at my 'best' time of day.

Wheezing on inspiration?

Hi

Since we are on the topic of wheezing i thought i would ask why my wheezing tends to be only during inspiration and then it is usually from the lower part of my lung and sounds like a popping!

That sounds so weird and doesnt seem to be helped by the reliever inhaler, isn't painful and i have plenty of energy and i am not unwell or anything just now.

Any advise?

thanks
