Asthma Fundraiser

Okay, so I'm 14 years old and have Asthma myself, and I'm looking to do like a big fundraising party for Asthma UK sometime next christmas (gives me a year to plan). I need help and advice on what I could do in the party and how to get funds to pay for it. Any help would be a huge help. Thanks X

What a nice idea. One fundraiser around here is to have an Open Morning (10 - 1) and ask people to bring cakes. All the host has to do is provide tea, coffee and soft drinks. They give a contribution when they come in. Also have a raffle. You can ask family and friends for things for the raffle, all you have to do is buy a book of raffle tickets.

Another fundraiser is Bring and Buy coffee morning - people bring things which are put on a table with a suggested price. But refreshments are provided by the host, so there is a cost implication. Post out invitations.

I would hold something like this in Oct/Nov rather than at Christmas. If you hold a party, there are a lot of costs for you. Also people tend to be very busy at Christmas, and maybe short of money.

A friend of mine often holds fundraisers for an orphanage in Kenya (brilliant - £500 raised over here does an AMAZING amount over ther). She has done the things that Angievere suggests and raised a huge amount of money, but often chooses to hold the events in the summer, when there's a good chance that the weather will be good enough to be outside, which saves a lot of clearing up afterwards. She charges about £2 entry fee, which gets a cup of tea or coffee and some cake, which she gets friends to make for her. One good idea is to do a quiz, with an entry fee of £1. The winner gets £10 and the rest goes to the charity.

The latest idea is to give everyone a direct debit or standing order form and ask them to commit to £2 a month. It's not a huge amount but its regular and mounts up over time.

One thing, if you hold a bring and buy sale you'll need someone to take anything remaining unsold round to the local charity shop or you'll be stuck with it!

Wishing you very good luck with this. Please let us know how you get on.

xx
