My little man (aged 4) has recently been diagnosed with asthma. Every winter is the same with the constant coughing and wheezing. We has the blue inhaler last year which helped a bit, but after a further visit to the drs a few weeks ago we've been given the brown inhaler to do night and morning which has really really helped (am surprised just how much tomorrow. We are due back tomorrow for a check up but have been thinking one or two things and would really appreciate your thoughts.
The first is the flu jab. Its not something he's had before but I'm now thinking maybe its an idea for him. Rather than the medical professions thoughts I would rather hear what parents/carers have to think. There was another thing but I can't for the life of me think what it was now!!!!
hi we were umming and arring about the flu jab for our daughter to we decided to go with it to find out that because it was her first year she would have to have 2 doses she has been fine with no side effects not even an achy arm not sure what difference it will make shes never had flu just the usual coughs and colds, and chest infections.
as long as your little one doesnt have an allergy to eggs there shouldnt be to many problems
Thank you for your reply. Its certainly something we are mulling over before his check up tomorrow. I guess (after a few hours thinking about it) what I'm trying to say is is it beneficial for asthma suffers to have the flu jab? And typically the little wotsit has come down with a nasty cough today as well.
i just thought i would share my story concerning flu jabs with you!
although i have always had lung disease, my parents never allowed me to receive the flu jab. because when they had it previously, they got really bad flu twice over that year, once after the jab, and once when it went round the way it always does. and they both had this experience, although they were not together at the time.
when i turned 18, and my asthma had just taken a severe turn for the worse, i decided to try it, seeing as it might avoid chest infections etc. i never had any problems with the jab, and never got the flu. however, i did receive the A-flu jab, and caught that anyway a year after, and 6 months after the end of the official world epidemic.
i hope this is of some help or comfort to you. just to know that we all react differently to these things, and in my opinion, you dont know untill youve given it a test run.
