Just wanted to introduce myself, my name is Niki, my 15 month old son Struan has finally been given a diagnosis of having asthma, after months of being told that there was nothing wrong with him etc.
Hi :): Just wanted to introduce myself... - Asthma Community ...
Hi :)
Welcome to our midst!Feejay
Hi Niki and welcome to Asthma UK!My son has also recently been diagnosed with asthma (he is 12 years old) and I have been given lots of valuable support using this forum. Everyone is really friendly and it is nice to know that you are not alone, which is important, when you feel helpless when your little one is suffering with asthma. So use this site to rant, moan or to find out more information!! Good luck :o)
Thanks
I had Asthma when I was young, but not as young as Struan, it was heartbreaking 2 hear him scream when I had to give him his inhaler 2nite
I know I have to do it, and he will eventually get used to it tho
Hi I've been through this nightmare with 2 boys, both diagnosed at 6 months.Youngest has severe and difficult asthma. I covered the inhaler in their favourite stickers, it made it easier giving them their inhaler. We talked about the stickers and they were then happy to use inhaler. I also used it to show it wasn't that scary.I used to read to them whilst inhaling and teddy had to have a go too. I've just been given a pink inhaler and my Sons age 10 and 12 said ""thank God that's not mine!!My 10 year olds is covered in star wars stickers. My youngest has a nebuliser and we used to nebulise teddy too (spare mask from hospital)
Good Luck, it does get better as they get older. They tell you more how they feel and know what happens when they forget their inhalers. I still worry when they are out playing.
Take care

on my work experience there was a nine month old with asthma whod had it a month or so and he was really good at taking his inhalers but apparantly it took a week or two for him to get used to it!
Hi,
My daughter is 17 months and was diagnosed with severe Asthma at 8months. We have just been told she has Brittle Asthma now.
Its horrid as a parent to watch your little one squirm when you give them their meds but I promise it really does get easier for you and them. My daughter has inhalers, powders and liquid all in an attempt to keep her Asthma at bay. It was awful to begin with as it seemed to take over all of our lives and was so upsetting. But I can honestly say that it is part of our routine now and none of us take any notice of it.
Have you got a supportive GP and Asthma nurse? What meds is he on?
Feel free to pm me anytime. Take care,
Emily.x
