Can I ask any of you parents whether your little one has had a seat test? If so, what was it for?
The reason I am asking is that my 2 1/2 year old grandson, who gets wheezy from time to time, has a slight heart murmur and sweats a lot at night has been told he needs one.
Not being at the appointment, I did the usual thing, and googled sweat test, which was probably a mistake, as allI could find were references to cystic fibrosis, which, as you can imagine, scared me witless.
I'm probably over-reacting, but would just like the benefit of your experince.
A sweat test is usually done to rule out cystic fibrosis in small children who are very wheezy or severely asthmatic. Please dont be alarmed by that its quite a routine test that is performed a lot. It may not be that that is causing your childs problems but the dr will want to rule this out before giving them any stronger medicines and make sure that they're treating the correct condition. If you are concerned please speak to your childs dr or consultant they will be able to give you more details on the test itself. I think its uncomfortable but doesn't hurt. Hope it all goes well good luck. Lv kat Xxx

Hi please don't worry, my son had this done when he was 2 1/2 also. He is very sweaty, pillow and bedding leaves salt marks (this was a big concern for me) and he has lots of chest infections wheeze etc. It came back clear.
The test itself didn't bother him in the slightest. he didn't say he felt anything and just let them get on with it. He was very inpressed with the 'penny' mark (just a red circle) that was left. They said that they don't always get enough from a childs sample but My son gave a full sample! He is just sweaty I guess. LOL
Good luck, I hope it all goes well and I would advice not googleing CF like I did cause it will just cause panic.
