Were a bit daunted at mo as 3 weeks ago olivia was diagnosed with asthma that is triggered by ""furry"" animals. We don't have any animals(well 2 fish!) but my mum has a poodle and my sis has a spaniel!!
Hubby has nut allergy and is allergic to animals but just gets itchy, so we noticed olivia when ever she stayed at mums she was coming home with a wheeze, but only if she stayed overnite.
But 3weeks ago called at sisters house (Olivia had a cold/cough at the time) and within 30 mins olivia was coughing so bad she was sick!!!
Took her to docs next morn,he gave us VENTOLIN EVOHALER and use it as needed, but try and keep away from the dogs!!!!!
Went back last week cause ""cough"" seemed worse, then told me her cough was her asthma and gave me BECLOMETASONE to give her twice a day!!
All was good,no nite coughs, but noticed olivia even reacts now if my sis or her family come to our house(presume the ""cander"" on them is whats causing that to happen.
Just never had athma or any of our familys so this is all new to me and hubby.
Nurse recommended to use VENTOLIN inhaler for we go/or are with sis.
Just it would be so helpful if anyone else could give us some ""tips"" how to cope with this and work with it!!
I don't have loads of advice as my son doesn't appear to be bothered by aminals. But my nephew is allergic to cats. I used to have one and we first noticed it when he stayed overnight. Even after our cat was no longer allowed indoors (i know that sounds mean but he did have access to a heated annexe!!!) he was still bad - i used to have to hoover throughly especially carpets - sofas etc and that helped - it would be easier now with the likes of a dyson 'animal' or similar. He used to take piriton and his blue inhaler before he came but he was still quite poorly (hence banning cat from indoors). I don't know if there is anything you can get from vets to help with the 'dander' - i know with cats you can get special shampoo. For us there was no simple answer - i had to have notice of visits so that i could blitz the house - it got easier when i limited the cat to one indoors room that I asked my nephew not to go into and since we've had the house decorated and all the carpets/sofas replaced then he's fine
I'm not sure but i would have also thought that having a cold/cough at the time would have probably contributed to the problem.
I'm not sure how effective they are or if they're available on the NHS but i think that you can get desensitising(sp) treatment for specific allergies. It might be worth chatting to GP about it especially if she's affected by 'dander' on clothing and also to see if Olivia is allergic to anything else.
I hope that you get things sorted out and that Olivia gets better soon.
