Has anyone had any success with alternatives to conventional medicine in terms of managing pain and arthritic symptoms. I am hurting all over and trying to avoid the long term consequences of codeine etc

the best website (to which I was referred by my arthritis consultant) is Versus Arthritis, where you’ll. find hints and tips and, specifically, good exercises. Also swimming is said to be good. People on this forum have reported help from various creams etc. that you rub in, though I’ve not found one myself that helps.

I take Glucosamine with chondroitin for my foot pain and turmeric for back pain, and my husband find that magnesium helps his hips and back. It’s probably worth spending a few pounds experimenting with different pills of this sort, giving each one a couple of months. I know from experience with glucosamine for example that it takes a week or more to have any effect.

I expect other posters can give you their tips too.

thank you Rosie. I am off for a swim today and have just started some glucosamine and chondroitin. Lets hope it helps.

I find CBD balm gives short term relief for my worst OA joints...very useful when they are too sore for sleeping. This is additional to my regular pain killers.

Thank you Greynot. I will add it to my list of things to try.

I got rid of all the pain and most of the symptoms by eating an anti-inflammatory diet. I have rheumatoid and two other autoimmune diseases. I have never used ra medications and I've kept the other two diseases at bay for 4 years now. Maybe I'm just lucky. But there are other people who succeed at this as well. It's an option to think about

Thank you. I will consider. I have eating issues and have to be very careful not to be too restrictive but I will investigate.

For many years I found relief with acupuncture and a low dose of Amitriptyline. Unfortunately I'm having to take co-codamol now.

Thank you. I have just started some acupunture. I cant take amitriptaline due to other meds but i used too and found it helpful for sleep.

Look into MBST, since you are in the UK, it is available there, maybe close to where you live.

It's developed in Germany, the original website is: mbst.de/english/index.php

Thank you. I have contacted a local clinic. It looks promising if not too expensive.

I have to make sure that I am warm paying attention to the material in clothes. I feel the pain before I feel cold.

I have heard of this before from Dr Berg on Utube but have not plucked up the courage yet. You have encouraged me to have a go at stinging my knees.

Hello Hectorsmum2,

Chronic or episodic pain is the primary cause of joint function and mobility decline, resulting in psychological distress and reduced quality of life. Existing therapies for joint pain relief often have limited efficacy and can entail undesirable side effects, making long-term usage impractical. Incorporating medicated oils, practicing yoga regularly, and adhering to a balanced diet can help mitigate these issues to some degree.

Thank you Carol. It has been a lot better recently I think due to good levels of thyroid hormones and swimming.
