I am a 27 year old man with Hypothyroidism. I recently developed some tinling in my arms (having previously had some in my hands), and after a neck X ray, they found that I had arthropathy of C7/T1 facet joint (with narrowing of joint space and subchondral sclerosis), and reversal of the usual loidosis of my neck. I have also got a series of residual symptoms from my Thyroid, such as extreme tiredness, brain fog, etc. I do not know how to proceed, and would appreciate any help. I do not know whether any of this may be related to my existing Autoimmune condition, and what other checks and investigations that may be worth pursuing. I also have Aspergers Syndrome, which I know can be linked to Ankylosing Spondylitis.
Thanks in advance.

hi have you had hypothyroid for long? It can affect skeletal development in younger people and I believe is linked with various forms of arthritis at all ages.
It might be worth joining the thyroid Uk forum on here where I got great advice on testing as it is essential to have a clear picture of your minerals and vitamins, plus the different thyroid hormones which nhs testing rarely checks.
For example I tested very low vitamin d, b12 and ferritin all of which influences joint pain. I also don’t convert t4 to t3 which I would never have found out via nhs and would have left me undermedicated
Having multiple conditions that may be linked requires specialist help so I hope you have a helpful consultant either in endocrinology and or rheumatology. If not perhaps you can ask for a referral from your gp
It’s so important to get on top of these conditions particularly as you are young and you want to regain and maintain the highest level of health
Inform yourself, keep asking questions and check out forums on here for specific conditions you have as a lot of what I’ve learnt about hypothyroid and b12 deficiency has come from here rather than doctors!
I wish you all the best, take care of yourself and keep on the the doctors until you feel you really understand what is going on. If you need support to do that, as it is difficult sometimes to be listened to, ask friends or family to accompany you, or there are patient advocacy services available
I am not a doctor, that said, most likely related to you current autoimmune issues. Unfortunately with an underlying Autoimmune condition (it is my limited understanding) that issues along the spine are expected. I, like you have felt with these issues several years and unfortunately there is no “getting better,” only pain relief when you can find it (or the kidneys can handle it) lol! Good luck to you!
