I will see what happens on Thursday update you then - thanks for your interest Rose and Blessed. I have a lot of pain and stiffness in my knees and thigh - particularly the right side. I also have osteo in in my neck - C4 ,C5, and 6 I think they said. It is now affecting my ability to work efficiently - and as I do not retire until I am 66 - I am now 58 this is quite worrying.

Hi all - update - I have a diagnosis - yippee!! Moderate osteoarthritis in both knees and hips. I know this sounds silly to be happy to discover a diagnosis but I have been in such a lot of pain and now feel able to contact agencies to get help with things like getting up and down stairs, and the blue badge scheme. I already made an appointment to go to the disability living centre in Coseley.

Hi Shirley glad to hear you have a diagnosis. I have osteoarthritis and psoriatic arthritis in most of my joints. So I know how you are feeling there are a lot of things you can get to help with your daily life. Take care

Hi Blessed thank you so much for your good wishes - do you have any suggestions for when I go to Coseley or anything I can get help with? I am sorry to hear about your condition - what is psoriatic arthritis?

in reply toShirleyG

Hi Shirley When I was diagnosed in 2012 with osteo I did a self referral to occupational therapy they sent me a book with things in to help people with arthritis like cutlery kitchen AIDS bathroom and dressing AIDS. I ticked the things I needed and sent it back and they sent me the things. At that time it was just in my hands. Then this year I started to get pain in more joints and was referred to rheumy clinic to see if it was RA turned out to be psoriatic arthritis I had never here'd of it. Psoriatic arthritis is inflammation in the joints I think I have mild it comes under an autoimmune disorder. It can also affect the tendons and muscles. It also comes with psoriasis in some people .

How can I self refer to occupational therapy?

As far as I remember when I needed a grab rail on the wall for the use of the shower ( it was some years ago) I phoned up the Occupational therapy department with the request and I was put on a waiting list. Took ages so I guess it could well be quicker going through your GP.

Thank you for asking . I am chugging along ok !

Ask your doctor. It was my doctor who told me to do a self referral

Some more news folks - I went to my assessment at Coseley - I saw an occupational therapist called Beth, who is organising for me to have stair hand rails and a bath bar to help me get in and out of my shower which is an over the bath type. I was quite impressed and yes it was a self referral via Social services. Do not be embarassed or afraid to go - everyone was very helpful.

Hi Shirley I am glad your assessment went so well. Have a lovely Christmas and a Healthy New Year xx
