Hi all,

Have any of you had this? It is almost impossible to move back whilst laying on my left side in bed and also very painful in my left leg and thigh when turning over to the right. Is this my hip?

Does your hip hurt to walk? Or is it just in bed?

I do not feel pain in my hip it is in my groin and thigh. I can walk but have difficulty bending over and putting my shoes on on my left side

Osteo arthritis can cause groin pain. Can you walk OK or do you have groin pain?

I do not have pain when I walk although I am now very slow. Standing up or sitting down gives me pain in the groin but the worst of it is moving in bed at night each move accompanied by creaks, grating and clicking and pain

It sounds like muscle pain rather than joints in that case, do you think that is correct?

I have no idea really, have a doctor's telephone appointment next Monday, hoping that might lead to a face to face appointment and then x-ray's. Will see what happens. Thank you for your replies.

That would help a lot. Good luck.

Have you considered a dysfunctional Sacrilliac joint - one or both.

No as I have no idea what that is. I do have a doctor's telephone appointment on Monday which I am hoping will lead to some investigations.Thank you for your reply.

I had and have the same problem turning in bed. I have to slip out of bed and go back in the opposite way to turn. I sympathize with you as being in bed creates the worst pains for me too. However,. I get some relief from slow release painkiller and amitriptyline.Hope you find a solution for your pain.

When I had this it wasn’t much longer before I had a slipped disc at L5S1 which needed emergency surgery, I couldn’t lift my bottom up off the bed either when lying down. And sitting to standing and vice versa was dreadfully painful as well as getting out of bed or a car.

Then walking became impossible for me till eventually I was stuck in bed in one position totally unable to move apart from my arms, it took three attempts via AnE and my GP calling them beforehand to say i must be seen as an emergency. I had to insist they keep me in, they weren’t going to but I said I have no life at home and I couldn’t get out of bed and walk to the toilet any longer. It took two weeks (on morphine) because the one and only surgeon on holiday, there I stayed and Sunday Eve he popped in to see me, had seen my MRI and said I needed emergency surgery and he’d cancel his Monday morning clinic (bit embarrassing) the next morning was just like an absolute miracle, where I’d been virtually paralysed and on a catheter for the duration of my stay, suddenly I was straightened out again, could move and was pain free.

You may have just a twinge in that nerve and you hopefully never get to the point where you need an op. I used to always get over it before this last time by just bed rest, might take a day or two to recover but I always would, this would happen on a now and again basis initially.

My emergency happened about three weeks after losing my dear mum, luckily not till after her funeral, then days later, bam it just struck me down. I have since read that a slipped disc can be triggered by emotional trauma which really shocked me to be honest, I thought how could that be possible?

I do hope after a few days rest you’ll feel better and able to turn again. As you say it could be your hip too but if it continues I’d definitely recommend seeing your GP or a good chiropractor who comes with excellent recommendations. I hope I haven’t alarmed you, as being unable to turn over was just one of my symptoms.

Take care, hope things ease soon. I wouldn’t necessarily recommend doing exercise right now as if there’s anything inflamed it might make it worse so seek professional advice, your GP will no doubt refer you to physio and that might be all you need.

Oh my gosh, what a tale. I do hope I will not go down the same path. I trust you have things sorted out now.I have now had an x-ray of my hip and just awaiting the results. Hopefully they will give a clear picture of what is going on.

Thank you for replying.

No, if they’re X-raying your hip I really don’t think it will be your back, didn’t mean to alarm you either. Hope it just goes away and that your results are ok 👍
