You can wear them at night.
Hi Olive. Just read your post about thumb pain so, just thought I'd share what I do. I was given a wrist brace by rheumi nurse which I was to wear at night but, my problem is that left thumb hurts when I use hand in daytime and base of thumb is swollen all the time. The wrist brace isn't really useful for me and is hot to wear.So I bought a thumb brace - rhizo forte - which was expensive. I wear it when thumb is particularly painful and/or know I will need to use left hand more. The thumb brace is rigid plastic around base of thumb and protects it by stopping me bending it. It makes things a bit easier for me. I was also told I could have injections into thumb but have tried those into other joints with mixed results and may well have them into left foot. So am avoiding that. Hope you find something to help thumb.
If the pain is being caused by OA there is surgery you can have if injections haven’t helped I had trapeziectomies on both my thumbs although the left one didn’t work so have recently had another op putting a tightrope across from my thumb to next finger this is to stabilise my thumb and should when fully healed and working again properly ease the pain I had if fo d about 6 weeks ago but still early days yet but I am hoping that it will mean I can use my hand without that awful pain everytime I go to pick anything up or hold anything as it was getting so ridiculous just washing my face and holding a towel hurt. So it is something worth considering if the pain is not easing. Good luck
