Hi folks, just 2wks ago I was diagnosed with dry eyes due to my arthritis and medication, iv been given two ointments, 1 for during the day and another for night time use but neither are helping, my eyes are constantly tired, burning and itchy, has anyone else suffered this and have any advice to help relieve these symptoms.
Thankyou

Hi there I think it's just another complication we have to put up with due to this damn disease, I get the same and got eye drops from go which help a bit but since I've had this disease 2014 my eyes have definately got worse and I have cataracts now and get a lot off probs with blurred vision which is either to do with the meds or the disease
Yes my vision is blurry too, I also find im very tired due to my eyes feeling so heavy, the only relief I get is when I close them, I constantly look like iv been crying, eyes are so red and puffy, its so irritating, thankyou for ur reply
Hermes123. I too suffer from dry eyes, but never told what cause it, I was told to bath in salt water but that did not work for me, I use an eyewash for dry eyes it's the best thing I have found that helps.
Spoke to my optician about it yesterday and she recommended I try a heat mask as it is meant to help stimulate the eyes natural oils, il try anything as its so sore
Hi silleecharle, This is the beauty of a site like this one, the feed back given by people like your good self, at least this gives people the opportunity to try different option for them self. So thank you. Hermes123.
I too have dry eyes, but mine is due to early onset of glaucoma. I have one that was given to me by hospital for the glaucoma and one for the dry eyes. Its in drops form and its called carmellose. do not know if its only on perscription or if you can buy it over the counter. It is good and you get instant relief. Please try it. these drops are really soothing.
Il look into it with my optician, she said there r other drops we can try so maybe this will b one of them, she's talkin about referring me to a specialist but id like to avoid this if I can, thankyou
Iv just checked online and no prescription is needed 😀
Hi I have the prescribed eye drops from the doc hypromellose. The optician told me to use the drops all the time even when there is no dryness and he said when there are symptoms to use the drops hypromellose every 2 hours (2 drops) until relief and continue maintenance drops after that. The prescription is one drop into the affected eye(s) as needed. Maybe chat with your optician or pharmacist concerning what the doc has prescribed for you and what else may be of help to you.
When my eyes were really bad I would bath them with superdrug (UK) eye wash & eye bath 3 times a day as well as use the drops, I found superdrugs own brand eye wash very soothing for the eyes.
I believe my dry eyes and fatigue is part of this autoimmune stuff but some of the other symptoms like blurry vision, swelling may be side effect results. I use the gels and drops and sliced cucumbers with ice. Good luck just a another piece of the puzzle. 😊
Hi sillicharle, I have extremely dry eyes. Get viscotears prescribed but they are not brilliant for me. Blurred vision. Hot and painful eyes persist. Recently diagnosed with sjogrens syndrome. Am new to this site and wonder why I cant find sjogrens in communities list. Thought I come here as sjogrens under umbrella of arthritis. Had arthritis for over 30 years. I am attending a talk from a professional in March who will talk about best treatment s for dry eyes! Will keep this site informed. Good luck meanwhile, dry eyes are no fun. Agree with earlier advice, computer reading can aggrevate.
Thankyou for yr reply its appreciated, its definitely no fun, its so sore so any info u get wud b great for others like us.
I just posted about flaxseed oil on another post, I wonder if this may help you. I am just trying it myself.
You can buy the softgel capsules, you could buy the ground flaxseed and sprinkle of cereal or porridge oats each day add to smoothies etc. Anything is worth a go.
I had not been told the dry could be related to arthritis but I have wondered if it was one of my medications not arthritis related causing it.
I do find the eye drops my eye lids seem to have become sensitive toward the drops and was going to mention this to the doc when I see her this week, that and the flaxseed oil capsules.
I still use the superdrug eye wash, I do find that soothing still and also just discovered Simple brand, do a kind to eyes soothing eye balm which I have been using too.
Hope your eyes are feeling better. My dry eyes seem to come and go much like the arthritis pain in my hands at the moment.
