I have had a cough since going into heart failure. It is getting worse all the time. I knew it was to do with my heart but my g.p. sent me for a chest x-ray which is clear and l did a sputum test which showed no infection. I have been trying to get referred to the cardiologist which my g.p. seems reluctant to do. Combined with being very breathless and faint and a.fib it is stopping me from going out . I hoped that my cardiologist might change my medication to make me feel better. Apparently l am out of the system since l was given a pacemaker and can't even ring up the cardiac nurse. Has anyone else got this cough as l realise not everyone withheart failure has it and what do you take to help? I will be grateful for any replies as l am getting depressed because any tiny little job is too much for me.

CARDIAC COUGH
Try soaking a tea spoon of Fenugreek seeds (couple of pounds from an indian grocery store) in the morning in one cup of water and drinking the water, plus eating the seeds every night when they get soft. Works to keep my lungs clear. Helps respiratory track. I often take one table spoon actually. Deep breaths no problem.
For BP. Half a clove of crushed garlic with honey at night, and a piece of 85% cocoa dark chocolate.
For energy and heart health I have about 3 to 5 Madjool Dates every day and vitamin B12. At least 2 eggs a day.
Have manuka honey losenges.
Or Manuka > 500 MGO handy if you feel a cough coming along.
Just a bit on a wooden spatula eases it. Or a bit in warm water to sip
Propolis in water. 5 or 6 drops, Achinaforce 15 drops in water
Might help too.
Have tried lots of home remedies since I got diagnosed with HF and Pulmonary edema recently and stick to a consistant routine.
Avoid walnuts, dairy, sugars
Bought an oxymeter and oxygen machine too!
Everyone is different but hope that if you research the above they might help you too.
HF, the fatigue etc is hard but hang in there. Keep what works consistent. And you will feel the diff. Check all the side effects of meds too.
Keeping oxygen levels up in the blood and not letting fluid collect in organs is key in my opinion. I was given too many diuretics and landed up with kidney issues too. So everything in balance.
Wishing you the best! X

Thank you for your tips. Why do you have to avoid walnuts ? I thought they were good for you. I have an oxymeter. I didn't know that you can buy oxygen machines or tanks. I thought they had to be prescribed. I have chronic kidney disease and found , like you, that too much of a diuretic is bad for the kidneys. They only seem to help with my ankles and feet anyway. They don't get rid of it anywhere else. Thank you so much for your help. All the best,
Shirley xx
