I got issued with a medical driving license (UK) last year after having PPP.
I was just wondering if anyone knows the process? I know I have to reapply each year - do DVLA send a letter? Or do I need to be organised and get forms filled out first?
If the new license doesn’t arrive before old one expires, can I still drive? Or do I need to stop?
Thanks!

I had my license taken off me back in 2016 after pp and was issued with a 12 month license.
When it gets near to the time of your license expiring you’ll get a letter with the forms you need to fill in and forms to send to your doctor.
Once you’ve sent the forms off you get a letter saying they’ve been received and are going to be reviewed. The letter says something like ‘if you have no reason to think you won’t get your license renewed then you can continue to drive until your new license comes’.
I’ve had it where my license has expired and I’m waiting for my new one.
This went on for years, I had a couple of one year licenses and some 2/3 years. Last year I finally got my 10 year full license back.
I had my PPP back in November 2023 and my licence taken away. They recently sent the letter through so hopefully it will be sorted before my licence expires in April, but I think you can still drive even if it hasn’t. Hopefully you’ll receive your letter soon.
Yeah DVLA will write to you asking consultants details, medications etc. mine medical licence has now expired. Consultant never got letter so DVLA having to reissue but I’ve checked with my insurance and I’m still ok to drive.
