Sertraline or SSRI with Olanzapine

Did anyone take Sertraline or another SSRI with Olanzapine. I have bad anxiety and am scared of Olanzapine because of a higher cardiac event risk. And then if you add Sertraline it can also cause adverse affects. So anxious about Olanzapine and then both.

Hi lizziebennet, I'm hannah one if the volunteers at APP. I took olanzapine and sertraline together when I had pp. I'm sure what stage you're currently at. Are you post discharge? They usually keep you well monitored when you're on olanzapine. Have you got a cpn you can talk to about your concerns? It is possible to take both together though. I hope that helps a little. Sleep well x

Hi, I am in another country. I didn't get diagnosed with psychosis but they did section me because they thought I had mania and put me on olanzapine. I don't think that was the case. I was in another country when my second was born and also had weird thoughts. I am under the supervision of my GP.

Ok love. Maybe speak to your gp about the concerns you have and get some reassurance about monitoring. I did find the sert helped my anxiety a bit. I hope you get some answers. Take care x

How did they monitor you? Did they check your heart?

Hi, blood tests as an inpatient then on discharge with the GP. Do you find olanzapine works for you? You could always ask about alternative meds if you still concerned. Take care x

Hi there, I’m also a volunteer here. I have ppp and was on both these meds at the same time. I don’t recall anything about an associated increased cardiac risk. I do remember at one point having a ecg but only the once while I was an inpatient. There was blood pressure and heart rate monitoring more frequently if I recall. Hope you are ok and the meds starting to help. Do you have an existing cardiac condition you are concerned about? . As I understand it, it’s quite a common to be on on both although I’ve no expertise, definitely discuss any concerns with your GP. Best wishes xx

Hello lizziebennett

I wonder as you are in another country whether you know about Postpartum Support International at postpartum.net although this might be how you found APP?

If you go to the page and click on Get Help, then scroll down to Connect with a Peer Support Volunteer, then click International which will take you to a drop down list of countries. Hopefully you will find the country you call home there and can connect with support locally as well as here where you are so very welcome.

Take care x
