Has anyone fallen pregnant while taking Olanzapine?

I am currently on both Diazepam and Olanzapine. I am tapering off Diazepam first because it is not safe to take during pregnancy and I would like to fall pregnant once I am off it, but I have read that Olanzapine can negatively affect fertility. I'm interested to hear if anyone has fallen pregnant while on Olanzapine - thanks so much for sharing.

Good to hear from you. I’m sorry I don’t have experience to share about Olanzapine affecting fertility. Years ago I wasn’t offered any medication during my second pregnancy, probably because I wasn’t aware how ill I had been after my first son was born. Did you connect with the Mama Tribe in Australia for their experiences?

There is another website which might be helpful about medication, bumps (best use of medicines in pregnancy) at medicinesinpregnancy.org. There are patient information leaflets from A-Z and you will be able to search for a summary.

Hi NicJKI hope you’re ok and have had a nice Christmas.

I’m sorry I don’t have any experience to share. I found a bit of information on olanzapine and pregnancy but it may be what you have already read - choiceandmedication.org/ncm... - this says it ‘might reduce your fertility by stopping your menstrual cycle, although this is less likely with olanzapine than many other antipsychotics’.

Hopefully others will have experience to share.

Hello. My experience is not quite what you are looking for, just that I took olanzapine in the last 6-8 weeks of my pregnancy. It is safe, we’re told, if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. So you don’t need to use contraception when that’s the only one you’re taking. But you won’t be on olanzapine forever, it just feels like it at the moment 🙂Wishing you all the best in growing your family.

I fell pregnant twice whilst on Olanzapine. The second time I got pregnant within two weeks of trying!

The first time I got pregnant I was on A different drug (the name escapes me).

Any time. I always had strange cycles so I couldn’t tell you, sorry! I even had one overt that didn’t work properly and still managed to conceive three children quickly. So don’t be put off xx
