Hello all. I never wrote on here before, but I been a member since 2014/2015. In 2014 I went through psychosis and also in 2018 I went through psychosis again. Both times I was breastfeeding and had a child who was 1( I currently have 2 kids a 5 year old and a 2 year old). December 26th I had an ultrasound done on my thyroid. I also had my antibodies checked for my thyroid. And also had a few other blood tests done for my thyroid. My bloodwork kept coming back fine with my thyroid(tsh blood test) until I got my antibodies and further testing done with the bloodwork. It came back that I have Hashimotos. What I went through was called a thyroid storm. My thyroid inflamed and caused the psychosis. Currently not on any medication for my thyroid, but I’ll be on medicine for it and I shouldn’t go through a thyroid storm again! I weaned myself off my psychiatric drugs both times a few months after the psychosis occurred. Anyways, just hoping the thyroid tests help some of you out! Have a good day everyone!

Previous Psychosis episodes
Hi Ericaq93
Thank you for your post and Happy New Year!
I’m sorry to hear you’ve suffered from psychosis twice and while with such young children. I’m so glad you’ve had a diagnosis that means you can keep your thyroid under control and hopefully avoid any future episodes of psychosis, which must have been very frightening.
I think thyroid function tests should be done / considered for anyone who has a psychotic episode (though I have no idea what tests I had!), thank you for sharing this information which I’m sure will be helpful to others.
I’m glad you recovered well and hope you’ve found the forum helpful over the years, thank you for sharing your experience here
Best wishes,
Jenny x
Thank you and happy new year to you too! I also think they should do testing for thyroids as soon as you show symptoms or have family who has/had a thyroid problem. I’m hoping it helps others like it helped me! The doctor told me up to 60% of people are unaware of the their thyroid problem! Have a good day 🙂
