Did this overshadow - your experience as a mum. Did hospital staff undermine you?

Hi i conceived using quietipin and was advised by my phychiatrist to carry on using it as the fetus was already exposed to the med. She phoned a pharmacist for me to speak to about the medication. I was advised not to get pregnant whilst taking the meds but it happened. My Care co ordinator did tell me there MIGHT be risks like anything. However i was re assured at all my scans. I had a very healthy baby with no concerns. When she arrived i stayed in hospital for a few days following my care plan due to having PP first time round. The midwives done lots of observations and baby was fine. There were aware of my history and with all the support from professionals and family i remained well. Im still on these meds. I just still struggle a little with tiredness.

Hope this helped. Violetx

How much were you taking? - my Gp wants me to try for a baby I have PCOS; with queitiapine I am reluctant as it will overshadow things dealing with subjective observations means I am at risk of them accusing me of being a bad parent. I accessed my Gp medical records is was full of inaccuracies, also commentaries. It may take me a long time to conceive at 41 plus in my catchment area they do not offer IVF after the age of 40

Following my first experience wih PP with my first, my son. I was taking sodium valporate and Quietpin. When i found out i was pregnant again i had to stop taking the sodium valporate immediatley. Continued with Quietipin i think around 400mg. I was advised to continue this by my phychiatrist. She did not want to try me on a new med due to risks of becoming unwel again and how well i done being on these types of meds. She said had i planned the pregnancy and doctors know about it she would of weaned me off meds and put me on Olanzapin.

My second baby was very healthy, scans were all fine no concerns, her thigh bones apeared long in the scan, my children are both going to be taller than me :) She arrived around a week early same as her older brother, weighing a healthy 7 lb 8.

You are not a bad parent for taking medication to remain well. Fortunatley i did not have Post partum phychosis second time and have remained well with no relapse since my first time nearly 4 years ago.
