Weight gain
Hello Kas ,I gained also about 3 stones from meds But I advice you not take any weight loss meds as it is has its own side effects as I am expert in it . Speak to your doctor about your concern of the weight gain.he might have a good and safe plan for you .i know it seems like a vicious circle the weight gain could be so depressing but you will lose it don't worry . Good Luck

Hello Kas275
Welcome back to the forum. Have you managed to hook up with any PP mums in Australia?
I'm sorry you're struggling with your weight due to medication. Although it's a long time ago I do remember putting weight on but I think I was so depressed at the time it didn't register as a problem.
A few months ago there was a post "Medication and Weight Gain" with a few replies which you might find helpful. The link is healthunlocked.com/app-netw.... I'm not sure how safe weight loss medication is so please take advice from your G.P. and other mums here.
Take care ........
I gained alot of weight whilst being on depakote. I did try the herbal slimming tablets from Holland and barrets but then I found it increased my heart rate due to the caffeine and this in turn increased my panic attacks.
Since stopping I have joined slimming world and lost 1st 8.5lb. I suggest the best thing to do is start a healthy diet rather than slimming aids. It can be done as the tablets could have an adverse effect on you. If you are desperate to try them speak to your health care people x x x
Hi Kas205, I've struggled with weight gain since starting on Lithium 20 years ago. I gained 3 stone in six months and have since lost the weight by joining a slimming group and then put it back on. I then put on more weight when I started HRT about a year ago. I have just stopped it as I felt really uncomfortable with the weight gain and I did not feel any better taking it. I am now really uncomfortable with my weight and keep saying it is my next aim to lose weight but never feel in the right frame of mind. I have thought about tablets to lose weight but afraid of any adverse effects. I am now trying to go for more walks and trying to cut down and moderate what I eat but understand it's not easy. My way of thinking now is that I would rather be well on medication and can try to focus on being healthier, although easier said than done! Good luck x
Yes slimming world is really good x
Hi Kas275,
I hope some of the answers here have been helpful to you - you're certainly not alone in the weight gain from meds side, I know this was a big thing for me too. It took time to feel that I could do anything about my weight, as I was more relieved to be well on some level. I also think it does get harder to lose weight too after having children (and perhaps being a few years older too!)
As I really enjoy food, I have found that trying to be a bit more active was a help. Whether it's going for a walk or finding a class locally, I have found the social side to be really beneficial too. It's important to have fun at the same time! I'm not sure I have lost much weight really, but it's a step in the right direction whilst life is already quite busy with other things and losing weight hasn't been my number 1 priority. Perhaps I will have more time for it soon.
I hope you find the right balance for you too, and continue well in your recovery. Take care, xx
