Hair loss! Please help.

Hello, i just started Warfrin 6 months ago but will be on it for life, due to my mechanical valve and I'm worried ill lose my hair forever., go bald. Can someone with knowledge tell me how this process works please? Thanks

Hi scooterlove, sorry to hear you have found yourself on warfarin, i understand this is a scary time for you. The side effects are listed as guidance you wont necessarily experience them all. I was on warfarin a few years back following bi lateral PE and didnt experience any hair loss or thinning. Please take the time to get the dose right first and speak with your Dr at your next review if you seeing any hair loss. Take care

Hi, thank you for the response. I've steadily been losing alot of hair the past 2 months and have heard alot of people are allowed off of warfrin which allows their hair to grow back but since I'll be on it for the rest of my life I find myself wondering if the hair loss will only get worse or even get to the point of complete baldness. 😞

Hopefully it’s a short term effect that will stabilise out or go. I lost all my hair during chemo and reduced the length/changed the style beforehand in 4 stages to get used to it. then almost immediately went on lifelong cancer meds that slow hair growth. it’s now short. I have many meds in addition to warfarin and find that side effects mostly come and go. No idea why but anxiety will exacerbate hair loss so take control, nurture what’s there now, and see if you can have a bit of fun experimenting with different styles of ‘you’ .
