Had recurrence of DVT years ago. No problem since on Xarelto (rivoraxaban) 2014.
Experiencing DVT symptoms again.
Anyone else had recurrence while on Xarelto (rivoraxaban)?

That would be me! On Xarelto since 2020 (I have a complicated history involving Xarelto/acenocumarol and Xarelto again) and I was diagnosed with a DVT behind the knee at the beginning of May. Currently on daily hep injections a feeling very fed up!
Hi,
I'm on Apixaban, I've had three DVT's all in the same left leg.
First one was, 15 years (below the knee) ago, then second above the knee at the thigh) 5 years ago and the next one was 3 years ago, (again at the knee) put on Apixaban.
The leg is pretty painful all the time, it's always heavy and sometimes feels like a lead weight. Perhaps this is what your feeling!!
(Post-thrombotic syndrome is a condition that can happen to people who have had a deep vein thrombosis (DVT) of the leg. The condition can cause chronic pain, swelling, and other symptoms in your leg. It may develop in the weeks or months following a DVT.)
Since being in the Apixaban, I've not had
any problems with any more DVT's.
I should really ask for a blood test, I remember someone saying, it wasn't worth doing the test as I was on thinners now for good.
If you think it's starting again, either get to a doctor or go to A and E
Good luck with everything and stay safe.
I feel for you and what you say about PTS is true and can mimic another DVT. I am assuming that you used to be on warfarin before you switched to rivaroxaban. I’m also guessing that perhaps your INRs were not stable hence further DVTs?
If you are on Apixaban you do not need another blood test. No INRs for the newer drugs. If there is suspicion that you do not have the correct amount of apixaban on board one can do Factor Xa levels but that is not a normal test. Due to your njj I’mmber if DVTs I am assuming that you are on 5mg twice daily?
It might be worth wearing a compression stocking if your leg swells and is uncomfortable? Also, depending on your age etc it might be worth seeing a vascular surgeon regarding your post thrombotic syndrome as PTS occurs when there is poor venous return and there have been amazing advances in the fitting of stents to increase venous return.
Good luck.
Hi Suebo2,
Spot on with everything there.
I have a lovely class3 stocking, (😂) the full length of the leg and wear it religiously. What a difference that has made.
The leg is still heavy, I have to get the leg up pretty frequently. However it's better than it used to be, and I'm happy for that.
I've also been told a few times now, that they would only operate if it was life threatening.
I just saw Jerry99, I just remember thinking that every twinge was another one, it was scary.
If anybody is thinking they have another DTV. Get it checked either at the doctors or hospital.
Have a great week and stay safe
It is possible to reclot. Please make sure that you get reviewed as quickly as possible. Have you forgotten any tablets?
If you’ve taken them religiously then if you have another clot you may need to swap to warfarin. But this will be decided by a haematologist.
Everyone is an individual and has their own personal risk of clotting.
Might be useful to wear a compression sock if it is PTS and depending on your age etc, have a referral to see a vascular surgeon
Please just make sure that you get a review
Good luck.
