INR
Hi
I guess it is possibly due to change in diet ? Eating different things when driving than when you are at home ?
Not sure if the same applies to exercise as I have noticed that since increasing my amount of exercise my INR has dropped - and causing me a bit of concern ... am talking to medics about it this week .... maybe you could do the same ??
Are you eating more green, leafy veggies like spinach? That will lower your INR.
You might not be doing anything wrong...your INR can just change...whats worked for months sometimes will suddenly not work right anymore just adjust it as your doctor recommends and it will level out again. You’re going to be good...look at it this way I've been on the same dosage now for almost 2 years and I had to start a whole new dosage 2 weeks ago. I havent changed anything. It happens, just make sure you know how much you are taking and when so that you can get regulated again.
I had considerable difficulty in getting my INR down from 4.0 . and this seemed to be as a result of eating too much Broccoli...........I looked at the information available online and the comments were to the effect that "eating Vitamin K containing vegetables could affect the blood thinning properties of the medication" ......... It did not make it clear if this would increase the blood thinning or decrease it
I find that when my INR is on the high side, I tend to bruise very easily......(too easily)
I'm fairly sure its the other way round Samuel.....eating vitamin k rich foods...broccoli, spinach, chick peas, avocados, blue cheese etc etc will pull the inr rate down and hence higher doses of warfarin needed to attain the target of 2.5 in my case. As a vegetarian I eat all of those at least once a day (if not in one nice salady meal) but was told to keep diet same and have higher doses of warfarin. ..... but do check with medics
I was of the understanding that too much Vit K increased your INR level.
Found this which may explain the correlation between vitamin k and inr................
, your INR refers to the international normalized ratio test, a standardized way to measure how your blood is clotting. The lower your INR, the more quickly the blood clots or the “thicker” the blood. The higher your INR, the longer it takes the blood to clot or the “thinner” the blood, putting you at risk for bleeding problems. With an increase in vitamin K , your INR level may drop. Conversely, a decrease in vitamin K intake may increase the INR. Other things, like medications, antibiotics, and herbal products may also influence your INR......
This is why, as a vegetarian I have to take fairly high doses of warfarin...7mg... to attain my target of 2.5.
It is change of circumstances you have been off work for a year then suddenly gone back to a whole week driving. Same happened to me. I now have a part time job now rather than the 40 hr weeks I used to do. Body needs time to adjust to drastic change of pace...try to rest while you can. Taking it a wee bit easier see if it helps x
I was on warfarin my inr wouldn't stabilise so I've changed to rivoxaban there's no monitoring with this tablet I find its more suitable for me. It's got its pros and cons however, the pros out weigh the cons.
