Scared pe returning
I've had 2. Yes I was told the risk is higher once you've had 1.
Take the drugs and I think exercise helps. If you're only 27 you should be able to do plenty of aeroboic exercise. It'll open up your blood vessels and help prevent further clots. You're aiming for 3 times a week, 40 mins or more each time and building to more than flouncing around a gym or walking in running kit. Of course I don't know your specific situation so take the comment in that light. If you have a PE from some other condition this may be bad advice.
I'm pretty sure my PEs were from being sedentary for the first time in my life. So I'm trying to exercise again and I certainly feel so much better.
Did the Doctors give you a reason why you had a DVT
Hello XsamieX, unfortunately I too can report that pe does have a sneaky habit of returning to life more challenging. I've had 2 pe and then in July this year a mini stroke! My meds have been change from warfarin (which I was on for over 12years) and I am now on rivaroxaban! I have an active life. Doing spinning class and an abs class on Mondays, Tuesday = aerobics, then metafit, Wednesdays = weight training , Thursdays = aerobics and then spinning, and finally Friday = step! So even after all of that exercise I still end up having a mini stroke! Nothing in life to do with health is guaranteed I'm afraid.
I am off warfarin so they can test my blood. But also like yourself I am worried if they will come back. I have my blood test later this month and get results and see consultant in oct to see results discuss warfarin. Happy if Aok to come off, but I know i will always have the worry what if. even at the min im constantly thinking does my leg feel ok, hows my breathing+my husband asks me every day. I wish you all the best luck and hope they do not return.
Hi thank u all for commenting I never new if I had a dvt all I remember is waking up in icu I had a large blood clot on my lungs I've had blood test done and everytime my Deadima (sorry dnt no how to spell it ) it's come bk high but doctors have took me of all medication and are not concernd I had my pe about 8 years ago but I crnt get the feeling out my head that it's going to come bk it's giving me panic attacks it's dreadfull
Hi- I completely sympathise and am the same although the fear isn't as all- consuming as it was. I had double PE 8 years ago now and according to the consultant was fortunate to survive. Was on warfarin for a year but ever since have suffered with repeated chest infections at least twice a year and excaserbated asthma symptoms which usually require steroid treatment. What no one seems to tell you is that you may well have reduced lung function and problems arising from the PE for years. I was told there would be no lasting damage, but that's rubbish. Just today I went to GP with yet another infection and she could hear that the air wasn't going in the lung properly right over the site where the worst clot was, and where I originally had the pain. I still get the same pain now all these years on, though nowhere near as severe; it's pants, and I have to fight the fear all the time. It kind of steals over me at times and becomes all consuming. Remaining calm is key, especially if you have breathing difficulties because of asthma or other reasons. I would advise if it is a big problem to seek help and don;t take no for an answer. Really hope you can find a resolution and/or a way through this.
