To get it removed but this time they want to inject a anti inflam steroid but I thought you couldn't get this whilst on blood thinners?

I am anticoagulant for many years and have a ganglion on my wrist, it was removed last year and came back so I am going back tomorrow
Hi Maejane. Like you, I have been on Warfarin for many years and18 months ago I also had a ganglion appear on my wrist. I was told that they often reappear after surgery and although they may be helped by anti inflam injections this is also likely to be only a temporary benefit as they come back. There is no doubt that anti inflam injections will be a problem on Warfarin so I rejected that as the ganglion is a much lower priority than my anticoagulation. The ganglion is a bit unsightly and may eventually disappear on its own but is of little problem to me. As a 67 year old male I may be less concerned by its appearance than you may be in yours so I just accept it and live with it.
You could of course try the old remedy (which I haven't!) Did you know that these were once called "Bible Bumps"? older generations would lay their hand on a table and bash the bump with the big family bible to burst it internally!! I'm not sure that I could recommend it but it must have worked for some??
All the best with it but do let us know if you find a remedy; I for one would be very interested.
Peter
Being on warfarin I am aware that I can't take NSAIDs, (non-steroid anti-inflammatory drugs) such as ibuprofen, but not sure about steroids themselves.
You need to talk to a pharmacist who should be able to tell you the drug interactions.
I too am on life long blood thinners and six months ago had a very successful steroid injection into my heel. The pain is just returning and I am booked in for a repeat injection, so I don't think there can be any actual ban on this. No one medical has suggested any contra indications.
I do also take the odd couple of ibuprofen if I have inflammation anywhere and have had no ill effects, though I know they are not recommended as a general solution for pain and I would not take them on a regular basis.
What "blood thinners" specifically Jokelly?
Thanks, I got it removed again rather sore, the doctor thought it unwise to use the steroid injection, so if it comes back I have to continue getting it removed!
Looks like your GP knows something mine doesn't! Still going to have the heel jab as it is better than limping along..
Maybe so, because last year I was given anti inflam cream for a partial tear of the archilles, and I have post thrombotic syndrome and pain in the legs due to blood clots and have never been given these drugs, also for episcaritis I have to take eye drops and not the usual froben tablets so you have to be very careful of the drugs you take whilst on blood thinners and there interactions, glad this doctor read my notes thoroughly before deciding against anti inflam drugs....
Were you taking antibiotics as they can cause tendon ruptures and tears?
No antibiotics, still have it waiting to see an orthopaedic surgeon
Dear Maejane
PPI's stop the absorption of nutrients from our food hence all the side effects. They also cause neuropathy, muscle wastage, inflammation of the muscles and anaemia.
Clopidogrel can cause bleeding as it did to me.
Sorry but those are the facts.
My understanding is that Clopidogrel and warfarin should npt be given together.
Please check this out for yourself though.
I'm not on warfarin I'm on rivaroxaban and before that phenindione, and paracetamol, just have to wait for my appointment with the specialist it could be a problem linked to my stroke 6 years ago
No, froben is an anti inflammatory and I use them very rarely 1 every 5 years say
Sorry how often do you use these eye drops.
