Nature’s Renewal for Dementia

Hello all, this will be a short one. I just wanted to try and trumpet the value of quiet, alone time. For the past several weeks I have been more gone than in the real world. I have found that when at my worst, if I go onto the back deck with a cold drink and music on my iPad, things improve drastically. For a time anyway.

By way of explanation, when I go onto the deck I generally lie on a couch like piece of patio furniture, turn on some comforting music (the volume is low so that I can hear everything else), close my eyes and enjoy nature. The birds are singing, the geese are honking, the wind is usually gently blowing, and I can hear the fountain running on the lake behind our home. I can hear folks chattering as they roam the lake shore trying to find the perfect fishing spot. It’s calming. It’s peaceful. It’s one of the few ways I can regain any of my former self and retreat to some degree from the darkness caused by my unwelcome friend.

My biggest concern: what am I going to do this winter?!?

Randy
