So my last post I was spinning out of control. I had just moved my mom to a memory care facility. It's been almost 7 weeks since the move. The first 4 weeks were a living hell and I thought I was having a total emotional breakdown. I seeked advice and started meditating and continuously told myself she is finally safe and being looked after 24/7. I never thought she would settle in but finally I can say she has found some peace. Now I'm not saying she doesn't ask frequently when she is going home because she still does. But she is not hysterical anymore. In fact, she has made friends and has more interaction with people then she's had in years. She just turned 79 and I would say she is probably in stage 5 of this horrible disease. Thank god she still remembers me because when she doesn't that will be another huge emotional time for me. The most important thing is to be able to have peace of mind that she is getting excellent help and that she is taking her meds properly and is safe!!! I visit with her everyday as she is only 5 min away fro me. This site has been so instrumental in caring for myself and especially gaining insight from some of you that post regularly. Poppygail --- I thank you from the bottom of my heart for sharing your journey. This is by far the most cruel of diseases. May god bless us all. Much love ❤️

Patience is the key......
Glad that your Mom is settling in and is even making friends! Glad that she remembers you and I am sure enjoys your visits. Yes, I also am grateful for Poppygail's sharing of his intimate journey while processing the experience. Glad it has helped you.
Jillco,
I'm so happy for you that your mom has started to settle in. I know this has to be a major relief for you. Just know, if my mother was any indication, she will never stop asking in some form, about going home. It continues to be heartbreaking but their safety and well being is what's important. The fact that you're able to be with her so often is more comforting for her now, and you later, than you can possibly realize at the moment. I continue to keep you and your mom in my thoughts, such as they are, and wish you all the best.
