Hi

Please can you tell me if I join AUK on Facebook will it show up I like it or show my posts? I have suffered a year now with hair loss which moved swiftly to baldness and now I've lost all my hair and body hair. I wear acwig and haven't yet come to terms with my illness to make it public knowledge, although I think more people know than let on. So just wondering will it pop up on other people's fb pages about me and my alopecia?

Thanks

I believe it is a closed page which means it is separate from postings on your own face book page. You can see it as one of your groups from your own page but unless you share your login in with anyone it remains private to you. Perhaps you could message an admin before joining the facebook page to be sure.

Hi there. So sorry you have been experiencing alopecia. You are certainly not alone in this and welcome to this site. It can take some time to adjust. Do realise there are some great head coverings out there like hats and scarves as well as wigs. You can look really fashionable and trendy! At one time I hated hats but these days I love them! It certainly is not to say that your hair will not grow back over time. This condition may well be temporary. I hope you can see that our hair is just a small part of whom we are as people. Look into having a more nutritious diet. Lots of oily fish if possible , nuts, fruit and vegetables. Cut down on sugar foods. You may be lacking certain vitamins. Hair growth pills such as those from Viviscal can help. I like to also take liquid iron. ( Just don`t overdo it). As for joining here everything should be confidential so not to worry. If you are an easily stressed person try and look at ways to reduce this. Daily exercising maybe...meditation..cutting back on overworking...Acceptance is really the key to feeling stronger. I hope you find needed support here. We are all here to help one another. ( My good wishes to you).x

You can look either in shops( as they are now opening) or online in the scarves and hat sections. I have bought several from charity shops quite cheaply. The baseball type hats are great when out during the summer, but there are many other types too. I recently bought a few headcovers from Aliexpress online( again very cheaply).

These are like a very wide headband, soft and in many colours. (A little thin though but great when it is warm). You can find many baseball hats and peaked hats in sports shops. Experiment. You will soon be the height of fashion! I hated hats /scarves once but they are now a new part of me. Some people with alopecia like to go without and that`s great if this is for them. I have only found positivity from those around me. No-one minds how you look. I`ve had more interest than none these days from the opposite sex too! Take care my friend. ( I am here to offer support). x
