My daughter just scheduled my Wife and I an appointment for the Johnson & Johnson Covid-19 Vaccine for Saturday morning. I am Highly allergic to PEG! I know that the J&J vaccine does not contain PEG but has Polysorbate-80 which i'm not sure if i will have a reaction too.
I'm thinking about taking some of my compounded Benadryl about an hour before i get the shot. Anybody have any thoughts about this or has anybody taken the J&J shot yet?

I have a high allergy to peg. Before my vaccin, i ask to my allergologist. He recommand me to dont take the benadryl before. It would hide the reaction.
He told me there is really little little risk of cross allergy with polysorbate. He recommand me to wait 30 min after before leaving the vaccination center.
I have receive the astrazeneca with polysorbate 80, like the janssens and I had no reaction... and no side effect too
My mom and I both have a propylene glycol allergy (with a cross reaction to PEG). Her allergy is worse than mine. She received the J&J on Tuesday. She had swollen lymph nodes, fluish-ness (aches, headache) - typical side effects. She said she did notice some swelling under her eye (where she normally sees her allergic reactions), but nothing you would classify as an intense reaction. My J&j shot is next week - hoping for the best. Good luck.
I am not a doctor. I am one of many, like you, allergic to PEG. Polysorbate 80 is structurally similar. I would have myself screened for polysorbate sensitivity before I got the vaccine. I would consult my doctor. There are 2 impacts to getting a vaccine to which you have an allergic reaction: safety And efficacy. If your body is mounting an immune response against the vaccine, it will likely decrease the effectiveness of the vaccine thereby making you more susceptible to infection than if you did not have such a reaction.
My allergy to PEG showed up as a raised itchy body rash that lasted months. I also was uncertain about Polysorbate. I just got home from receiving the J&J vaccine. I did have lightheadedness, a “swelly” feeliyin my throat, and chest tightness that started about 7 minutes after the vaccine. I took a compounded antihistamine I’d brought with me and they monitored me in the ER for an hour. All symptoms went away. Based on this, I’d strongly recommend receiving the shot in a hospital setting, whatever that takes (it took many phone calls and much searching on my part. ) Also, definitely bring your antihistamine with you.
Took the J&J Vaccine Saturday and had no side affects until 24 hrs later. I ran a low grade fever of 99.7 but took a 800mg ibuprofen and fever never came back. I did feel tired for 24 hrs later and just now feeling better. My wife and Son took the vaccine the same morning and they both had fever and chills and were weak but all is good today.
