I had some very kind and helpful replies when I posted recently about my upcoming cardioversion. It took place yesterday at my wonderful local hospital, the Homerton. I had a trans oesophageal first, followed by the cardioversion, while under general anaesthetic. I went in at 7 am and walked though my front door six hours later. It was a complete success and the trans oesophageal was also very reassuring. Very early days yet, but for those scheduled for this procedure, my advice is please don’t worry! It’s quick and painless and well worth a try.

cardioversion yesterday-success!

Glad it worked so now rest and don't overdo things. Interested in why you had a TOE (Trans oesophageal echocardiogram) Had you not been taking anticoagulants for the requisite time?
Yes, Bob, since last September , coagulants and a beta blocker. Plus in December / January a cardio gram and an echocardiogram. I was told it was to ensure no blood clots etc. I was given a print out of those results, very reassuring. I will see my GP , who has been very involved in my care , the week after next and the hospital will review me in a month .
Belt and braces I suppose. The only time I have had to have TOE is when anticoagulation has been interupted for any reason.
I've always had to have a TOE before any procedure (3 ablations, one CV which in the end converted just before they were due to do it), as I think they can't rely on anything other than direct evidence of no clots.
Different hospitals different protocols obviously. Four ablations, four cardioversions and only one TOE
1 ablation and 9 DCCVs and the only time I had a TOE was a separate thing entirely, to check my valves.......... and I wouldn't have one again unless they knocked me out completely.
I wasn't offered a TOE at either cardioversion or ablation, and was very thankful for that. Just the thought of it triggers something primal. Like you, I'd need to be knocked out.
They wanted to do it without sedation and I said absolutely not........ I gag brushing my teeth. They didn't give me much sedation so I started to panic and then when they tried to give me more, my oxygen sat dropped into the 70s so they had to stop sedation and carry on without it......... never again!

Wonderful News! I agree with BobD, take some time to rest up and give yourself some time to recover.

Great news, now take life easy for a few weeks and don't do anything that requires exertion.
Allow your heart to gain strength beating in it's correct rhythm as it's so easy at this stage for it to slip back into AF mode. I once walked up a hill the day after a cardioversion and went straight back in to AF - too late to be sorry then! I've had lots of cardioversions and learnt the hard way what not to do. No alcohol, overeating or wearing tight clothing around your torso either. Avoid artificial additives in food and drinks.
Best wishes.

great news. Now rest and don’t do what I did. The day after my ablation I had a new carpet laid for the whole of downstairs. When the men left I hoovered to carpet and helped hubby put the furniture back. Ruined the ablation
All the best to you xx
so sorry to hear that-dont worry, I am taking it very easy indeed !
Fantastic news. Well done. Take it easy and let your heart recover. Long may it continue. 🐝
congratulations I’m glad they did it I don’t understand when they don’t do a general anesthesia to me. They are so necessary. Don’t do anything you don’t do pamper yourself and make sure you follow all the instructions. I hope you’re one of the lucky ones QOL out of it for I’ll bet it feels amazing. I know mine did.
I see that Bob is asking about anticoagulants for you. TOE is part of the procedure for a cardioversion here in the states at least with what I’ve dealt with and always under general anesthesia. It made everything easy breezy for the most part. I have to the most part because I can’t be silly now and say I had a wonderful time lol let us know how you’re doing.
Thank you, I will certainly let you know. Very early days yet of course.
