Mg Taurate again!

Hello everyone here I am again.

I wrote a few months ago (Oct/Nov 2024) following an episode I felt was related to my flu vaccine & about how I’d taken Mg Taurate for an 8 week stint of AF. It took what I thought was 4 weeks to establish itself & just as I thought it was doing nothing I flipped back into NSR.

Well, mid day yesterday it was had not felt any AF (which was same as happened last October & was very unusual for me over last 20 years nearly). I had felt a slight tightening on my chest and when I stood up to walk it disappeared. I thought it was my acid reflux! I felt very hot but carried on walking around an indoor shopping area when after 5 minutes. Suddenly I was cold clammy and feeling light headed. Decided to go back to the car to sit with the air con & relax. My Apple Watch had not alerted me to the fact my HR was 160. I took and ecg which came up inconclusive (usually it is when I’ve been in Aflutter - watch on reads NSR or AFib)

Came home and still racing between 140-156 I took my Extra Bisoprolol as agreed with Drs and an extra dose of my MgT as agreed too. Within 24hrs I am back in NSR at my usual 63-78.

As per last Octobers episode I had continued to take the MgT daily. Never ever had as fast a turnaround as yesterday even when the Prescribed meds were previously increased. So, I’m staying on raised presc meds & back to normal MgT for couple of days to maintain.

This post is just to update you on what’s happened, I can’t say the MgT would work for everyone but I feel 98-99% (knowing my history over the years) I personally feel this has been the converter again.

Please note also, this post is just food for thought, personal experience to me and my position/condition and not advice for anyone to just go out and follow without seeing your own medics first. Take care everyone x

Interesting post. Back in January , I had a bout of AF and despite taking 300mg of flecainide and 100mg og metoprolol,it wouldn't go away.

I phoned 999 and was bluelighted into A&E where the doctor put me on a magnesium IV drip. Miraculously afterabout 15mins the AF stopped and I was in NSR. The doctor told me that she found the Mg usually helped patients in AFib.

I jave since had an ablation which, thank God, seems to be working.

My own recommendation is to take a Mg Taurate powder in water than tablet as apparently it is absorbed more easily.

I don’t think it works for everyone but there are many people on here who do take it. My regular AF meds are bisoprolol 2.5 daily, Flecainide 100mg twice daily, Losartan 75 daily.Had 3 ablations since 2007 & 2 CVs. Normally if I get the AF I ended up on his doses of bisoprolol but minimal reactions. However since the intro of MGT I’ve got the last 2 episodes under wraps by an increase of biso incr dose of the mgt and within 24 hrs back to normal. Maybe coincidence but I’m happy with the results & all meds back down to usual doses. Totally unheard of previously for me. I hope the ablation continues to be successful for a long duration for you

Hi. May I ask you which brand of Mg Taurate you are taking? Tia.

Hi I use the Ethical Nutrician brand (I ordered individual bottles before but now get it on subscription 3 monthly) - it’s been recommended by others on here before I tried it. Hope that helps

Thank you. Do you mean getting it on prescription from GP or from the supplier?

How much do you take and when? Any side effects? Tia.

No I purchase it by 3 monthly subscription delivered to my house. I meant see GP to check you could take it as I am not advising medically to anyone - just personal story.

Your experience in January is typical of my AF. If I go into it, it usually takes 3 to 5 days to stop, even if I take 300mg/day of flecainide (maximum 25mg metoprolol twice a day because a higher dose drops my heart rate too low). Numerous trips to A&E over the years; none of them have ever tried a Mg drip. I'm looking into daily magnesium.

My ablation was seven months ago and I'm back on the list for another one because I've had so much breakthrough AF. In March I had four weeks of mostly NSR (overnight banging, not sure if that was ectopics, flutter or AF -- I don't start fiddling with the Kardia at 3am)...

...until yesterday, when I went into AF again. Still in it 14hrs later. Sigh.

Good luck with your blanking period. Don't overdo it! Take your time to recover.

Thanks for your wishes Redactrice. Hope your second ablation manages to do the trick.

Wishing you NSR.
