Hi everyone, my anxiety is through the roof again,I'm getting so mixed up with all this, I assumed left heart failure was systolic and right heart failure was diastolic, I now realise that's not the case, I don't know if my heart failure is left or right, all I know is it is diastolic, which is the fact my heart can't relax as it should, don't anyone know if that's left or right, also another question about wheezing does anyone wheeze with heart failure I heard you can, needless to say Iv started to wheeze.

Diastolic heart failure affects the left ventricle. HF can affect the circulation in your lower body, or your lungs, or both. Wheezing is caused by fluid building up in the lungs and usually treated by taking a diuretic. I have been told that someone with HF should weigh them selves every morning before eating or drinking. If your weight suddenly goes up dramatically you don’t need a diet, you need a dose of diuretic!
I suggest you visit the BHF website and read their info re heart failure and if you want a personal explanation you can speak to a nurse. But please first contact your GP about the wheeze! Hope that helps ❤️🩹

Speak to your doctor, Mary. Right-sided HF is often, I gather, related to the lungs, whereas left-sided can be owing to many things, including AF, a "bundle black" and, often to unknown causes.
What I have read is that the recent treatments for this common condition has transformed the outlook so much so that all online statistics are out of date.

Someone on here said iv got left sided because mine is diastolic?
Hi Mary
Only your doctor can tell you what is the case for you. So far as I understand it, the phrase “heart failure” is itself vague, covering several conditions. Diastolic HF is one name for when the muscle on the left side of the heart is less good at pumping blood than it used to be. This happens with age to some degree but it can be worse in certain conditions. Only your doctor knows what applies to your particular case.
