hi

I am on 600mg starting yesterday

Then 400 mg after 7 days then 200mg after 14 days

As I spent 24 hours in AF according to the monitor

I just wanted to know what kind of time frame people have found the medication to work for them if at all

if you have not taken it before there is no way of telling how long it will take. We are all different. You also watch side effects, etc.. Speak up if you find any problems with it. There are people on here that have done wonderful and then there are people like that had to stop taking it. is something you really need to learn when it comes to a fib and also change when they are first trying to get you squared away. You may take several different ones at different until your doctor finds one that fits you. It doesn’t mean anything more is wrong with you. It’s just like I said we are all different. Just like there is no cure there is no

best of luck I hope it kicks in fast for you. I never had luck with it, but I was on something else that I kicked in within hours that only lasted a couple of weeks and then my tachycardia went crazy again.

I hope you hear back from someone that has been successful with it to give you a better idea on timeframe. Just remember your poor has been traumatized and it needs to heal from so much and that takes time. usually take a couple of months and when I had my pace and ablate it was almost a year. That being said, please know that doesn’t mean you’re suffering or bedridden. It just means you’re gonna have times when you feel really lousy but each day you’ll start feeling better and that goes for anything you have done. If you think about it, even if you cut your finger, it takes time to heal. Take a deep breath. If you don’t meditate you might want to try the good thing is you’re on your way to getting help

Are you still in Afib? I was given it as a last resort after my heart went a bit bonkers after my RF ablation. It sorted the arrhythmia out very quickly - but can take longer for some or doesn't work at all . As well as Afib I had tachycardia of about 160. It knocked it all on the head within a few days. I took the drug for 6 weeks . I had no side effects and had regular blood tests .

How encouraging

I don’t think I feel as breathless as I have been but see how it goes as the day goes on plus it’s only day 2

The monitor I had Monday night to Tuesday showed 100 min near to 150 22 hours solid I did feel a bit worn down

I really hope it works for you. I felt awful and really stressed and quite honestly felt relieved when she insisted I took Amiodarone ( no ifs or buts) as my heart was " tired" and nothing else worked. I think my heart did not like the ablation but all has settled down now and I am so happy I went through with it as my QoL is 100% better!

Could I ask was you getting breathless before the Amiodarone

I do just doing basic tasks in the garden or walking up any small incline

I have been put on water pills to get fluid off my lungs the cardiologist has told me my heart is fine and this is all AF related I wasn’t so sure if I’m honest

Yes I was. I think people are with a galloping heart 😊

That’s good to know I’m lost without being able to get about my fear was ending up being virtually house bound as I was getting worried about going new places where I wasn’t sure of inclines , steps etc

Well I really hope Amiodarone puts you back on track. You didn't say how long the Dr was putting you on it for? My situation was after an ablation but not sure what your heart history is.

It’s 600mg for a week

Then 400mg for a week

Followed by 200mg for 4 weeks

Heart wise no issues I have had 3 echos since 2022 two with the NHS and one private

left atrium midly dilated EF 50-55 so not massive issues

although I had convinced myself that this can’t just be AF and racing heart as not everyone in the forum seems to have the breathing issue I have .

So being in panic mode I start to think it’s other issues

I just had a quick loo,k at your posts. I am a little confused. Are you back on Bisoprolol? Perhaps that is contributing to your breathlessness as I see you also have asthma? Usually people with asthma are not given Bisoprolol. But I could be wrong but that is what my cardiologist told me.

Yes I am but dropped to 5mg from Monday I did mention this to a previous cardiologist as I agree with you but he didn’t seem interested

This new cardiologist had my list of medication which was the asthma inhalers, flecainde and Bisoprolol

He’s dropped the flecainde and halved the Bisoprolol but obviously added the Amiodarone plus a water pill to get the fluid off my lungs

Not 100 percent why it’s in my lungs but he said it’s to do with the racing heart and confusion

Well perhaps if you are taking 5 mg of Bisoprolol it might be partially responsible for your breathlessness especially if you are asthmatic. But I am no dr. Hope all goes well with the Amiodarone and if it helps remove the Afib and you are still breathless you may need to look at Bisoprolol/ Asthma side effectsvperhaps. But as always your cardiologist knows you best and it is certainly not a forum member that can advise you just let you know their experiences. Take care.

I after 2 failed ablations I was put on Amiodarone started 800 MG for 7 days then 400 mg for 30 days then 200 mg until my prescription ran out and then reduced to 100 mg. that I'm presently on. As for when it worked I had no sign of AF from day 1 . Had a lot of side effects ,light headiness dizzy, and occasionally weak ness in my legs. Since I was reduced to 100mg a lot of side effects has gone away. I'm also taking a blood pressure pill , Cholesterol pill and blood thinner pill and an acid reflux pill that have their own side effects. I can't complain as I have very little side effects lately . I have read up a lot on Amiodarone and the mild dose of 200 mg has a lot less side effects and the very light dose of 100 MG has less again side effects. I'm 75 and time will tell how my system adapts to medications so far no complaints.
