I had a second ablation last Friday under GA and was discharged from hospital on Saturday. Since then I had severe pain down my œsophages and what felt like spasms brought on by eating, talking and burping. The pain is half way down my chest, not just in my throat. I didn’t experience these symptoms after my first ablation and wondered whether this is normal and if anyone else has experienced this. It has slightly improved today though still there.

Painful œsophages after second ablation

Not uncommon and can usually be managed by medication's such as PPI's. In any event, you want to alert your medical team right away to rule out anything serious.
Jim
I experienced similar after an ablation that involved some kind of ultrasound down my throat and that went on a long time for exploration purposes. Discomfort only lasted a couple of days for me at least.
Hope it works out well for you
thank you for your reply. The pain is improving daily thankfully
Yes I had oesophagitis following my ablation and had to be readmitted to hospital for investigations (barium swallows etc) to find out the severity. I was put on a cold pureed food diet and no hot drinks whilst the pain was too bad to swallow
thank you for your reply. My oesophages is still painful but I am able to swallow now and it isn’t going into spasm anymore thank goodness. I am taking omeprazole twice a day and sticking to a soft diet. Fingers crossed this does the trick.
