Happy New Year to all you afibbers…
Great start to mine… back on the waiting list for a 2nd Ablation.
The annoying bugger, AF is back again!
Gotta lose some weight too.
All very grim!
Anyone done a new diet recently that works? Not too strict?

Intermittent fasting. Try this..... eat sensibly during the day, don't starve yourself or count calories BUT have a 14/16 hour fast overnight , drinking only clear fluids . Physio recommended this . Fastic App worth looking at.
I have dieted all my life and the best is calorie counting.I use nutracheck app .It takes a bit of getting used to but go for loosing 1/2 lb per week and you will probably loose more to start with. There is a good FB support group too.
Intermittent fasting, proven, as Jalia says. If you can have one day a week when you fast for 24 hours it really helps.
Calorie counting does not work, not every calorie is equal and is incredibly complex to work ou and everyone’s metabolism is so different that we all need a different amount.
Eat smaller portions, drink half a glass of water 5-10 mins before eating, start your main meal with a green salad, remove all or nearly all white starches ie: bread, potatoes & baked goods - Substitute green leafy veg.
You will find really interesting recipes which have been well thought out, are anti-inflammatory and very delicious on the DoctorsKitchen website.
Good luck
So sorry to hear your AFib returned. I hope you don’t have long to wait for touch up ablation.
The most important thing with weight loss is to avoid faddy diets that get you to lose weight fast. The science shows that if you lose weight quickly it just goes back on again plus some.
The diet I subscribed to was Second Nature - one of the few programs recommended by NHS. It has become very expensive though. This offers the support of dietitians and involves lifestyle changes rather than calorie counting. I believe they have now included one of the weight loss medications for those that wish. I found it hugely supportive and learned many tricks and skills for dealing with cravings and getting through the plateau phase of weight loss. I found it helpful to have an online group and the support of someone who took the guilt out of eating cake! I lost 2 stone quite painlessly.
I realise that for surgery people sometimes have to lose weight in a hurry. If this is true for you I would advise discussing this with a dietician - GPs are simply not trained in this area. Good luck!
AF here, too. I dropped 20 lbs (USA based) in past 3 months going back to calorie counting, cardiac diet per my EP, and no foods after 7 PM. The app Lose It! was my tool for tracking though there are lots of others. I did buy into a premium subscription that gives you more nutrition details and allows customization. What also seemed to make a big difference is no more diet sodas and artificial sweetners. I drink only water thru the day, low fat milk, and small glass of fruit juice in morning. And fiber...upped my fiber intake. Good luck!
