It is Hard to Think About Afib While Singing!

A little Poetic Parable (adapted for us Afibbers!)

I have found that singing calm emotional songs, or even lighthearted, fun ones, can banish the specter of Afib for a while. I wrote this little piece this morning:

"To Bring a Song"

A bird on wing

Overhead soaring,

Seeing everything,

Does not yet sing.

Pulling a worm,

Making nest firm,

Egg sitting long,

With still no song.

At end of search,

Comes chance to perch,

And peace to bring -

It's time to sing!

A feathered need

He daily heeds,

A role to live

His song to give.

With heart askew,

We can renew

A peaceful view,

With song on cue.

God gave us voice,

To have that choice.

Perhaps our heart

Will listen, too!

Merry Christmas Everyone (Shaking Stevens) seems to work. But it's anything but calming 😕

Any could do. The longer the better!

Maybe I'll try "99 Bottles of Beer on the Wall" next time and see whether the Afib stops before I run out of Beer!

Seriously: Old spirituals or hymns,

love songs of the '40s and '50s or songs from the great musicals.

The act of singing is relaxing, unburdening and restorative, unless you are preparing for a live performance of the "Queen of the Night" aria or "Vesti la giubba"!

Hi

A poem return

AF is a 'bugger' you see

when I had hoped to go out to tea.

With a friend who understands

that alcohol for me is banned.

I try and make a joke of it too

taking my McCoys dark grape to you.

AF is not much fun and its a juggle

to eat foods that I don't struggle

with, so I'm not that picky over my food

if you don't question me, it's kinda rude.

Respect that the food I choose

is not because you loose

But it's my right to keep myself healthy, wealthy and wise

so that my 'wine' is my kinda disguise.

cheri JOY. 75. (NZ)

I managed to get to one of the afternoons singing the old carols in parts at a local pub, with my husband’s help, which I’ve enjoyed for many years. I was still recovering the following week when our daughter was staying so she went with him then, and joined him for the last night when they do all the carols . She sent a recording of one each time for me on WhatsApp. It’s to raise money for the charity I used to be involved in, editing and reading for the recordings of items from the local paper to be sent to blind and partially sighted people in the area.

Thank you Fibnum for sharing your poetic song. In this world, which at times seems to be on “fast forward,” it’s good to be reminded of the peace of nature.

I hope you enjoyed your singing. Singing is excellent for anxiety, AF and the heart. Sometimes the simple things work best!

Keep well and keep singing.
