Supposed to see an highly regarded ep today about a possible pulse field ablation. Had a call saying they need to rearrange and will now be in the new year. Been waiting since March for this. Was annoyed at first. But i suppose this happens to a lot of us ?

Unfortunately, especially in winter. I know it seems a long wait but to be honest going to a hospital at the moment is probably the last place any of us would want to be if we are to believe the news reports. I currently have two friends who have contracted infections following out patient clinics, one still on oxygen after 10 days in hospital.
I have a consultation today but preferred a telephone consult. There is often no real need for us to meet face to face and I like the ability to choose face to face or telephone/video.
Bluelighted into hospital (Surrey A & E) last week with bad pain due to constipation. Needless to say v reluctant to go but arrived around 7pm (after excellent & prompt ambulance care) and left around midnight, having had blood tests, a CT scan and doctor consultation - all v professionally done. Only issue was no beds or trolley to lie on, just a chair, for first two hours of the wait.
Felt v lucky to have this level of care just 20 mins away from home.
Sounds like the sort of response we need, I’ve always been impressed with the paramedics responses and care although heard some horror stories but tended to be not heart/breathing shouts. So glad you were well looked after.
Not sure you would have had that in Royal Sussex but thankfully I’ve had occasion to go since living here. I wanted to be referred to Surrey when we moved as I know the team there are excellent, however, GP surgery wouldn’t refer me out of area and insisted we go to Royal Sussex, which as you probably know is rarely out of the news for one inquiry or another into poor care which doesn’t exactly give you confidence. However we have now found an EP whom we like.
Both disappointing and annoying but I promise you that finding out your ablation is postponed on the 6:30am call to the ward to check is more annoying. Pre-warned is pre-armed. Hope they get to you soon.
That was November 2023 and was postponed for a month, then postponed to new year and then un-postponed back to December. All done in December and I’m better for it. Be patient and manage expectations/anxiety is my point and hopefully yours will be for the better too.
Yes - I am expecting to wait a year. I know the doctor quite well and he explained the the pressures in cardiology have never been higher than this las year. Resources are limited and the NHS is struggling. The only bright side, for us, I suppose, is that atrial arrhythmias are unlikely to be leading to the kind of risks, long-term issues or damage that other heart issues can.
I had an ablation in September last year. The morning before, I got a phone call from the hospital, saying that it was cancelled, because of the Consultants strike, but in the afternoon, they rang me back and said my Consultant had decided to work through the strike, so I was lucky and it went ahead as planned. The nursing care was great, as there wasn’t many patients in the wards, because of the strikes, so we got a lot of attention. I certainly had no complaints about my treatment there. I was on the waiting list nearly 18 months.
