Is there a “recovery sheet” on what to do/not do after a cardioversion.

had first cardioversion in December 2024, which lasted 5 days. Next cardioversion is booked for next Thursday, hospital advice was rest for 24 hours, no alcohol or caffeine, no driving. After 48 hours back to normal. Any suggestions to try and prolong sinus rhythm would be appreciated

I'm a 'survivor ' of multiple cardioversions which have lasted months or years.

Firstly, however elated you might feel on being back in sinus rhythm , do not feel you can take on the world! Do take it easy for the first week, not just 24 hours.

Take only gentle exercise and eat only light meals. Particularly avoid eating late at night which is good advice for all of us anyhow.

Avoid alcohol as this has been shown to be a big trigger. You will know if this applies to you by experience.

Hope this will help a bit. Good luck for Thursday.

I don't drink caffeine or alcohol anyway, but I've had 8 cardioversions in total and usually take a week off so I can take things easy. Definitely no driving for 24 hours due to the sedation. Have they put you on Amiodarone this time to see if that helps hold NSR?

Hi Mear.

It's luck of the draw with this one. I had one CV which lasted a couple of days - another which lasted a couple of years. Ask your medic about taking a 'back up' such as flecainide - it can make all the difference.
