Eliquis and Wet AMD

My mom has been getting injections for Wet AMD for 13 years. They have worked well and her vision has been stable. She was diagnosed with Afib in April and put on Eliquis. Since then she has been having more bleeding in her eyes at her eye doctor appointments. It probably didn’t occur to her to mention to the eye doctor she is now on Eliquis but was wondering if anyone else with both conditions has this problem? I feel it must be connected.

Good afternoon

Thank you for post on the Atrial Fibrillation support forum.

Hopefully a member of the forum will be able to advise you about Eliquis and Wet AMD.

I have attached a booklet 'Atrial Fibrillation Drug Information Booklet' that you may find helpful to show your Mom.

If you would like any further advice please contact the 'Patient services team' on 01789 867502 or through our contact form below.

Can't recall a discussion on Wet AMD and Eliquis.

May want to google for a forum on Wet AMD or other info. Best to inform her Opthalmologist of all her medications.

I take a blood thinner, Xaralto, and have been having eye injections for AMD. You should make sure that your ophthalmologist is aware of your mother's medicines. My experience is that my eye tends to be bloodshot after the injection but the degree of redness rather varies in intensity. However, my experience suggests that a person can still be treated while on blood thinners.

Thanks for your reply. My mom said the eye doctor does have a list of all her medications but she’ll make sure he has Eliquis listed next time she goes.
