PEMFs

I wondered if anyone has tried PEMFs ( Pulsed electromagnetic fields) or even heard of it for the non invasive treatment of AF. My grandson has a doctor friend who has developed a machine who says it’s big in America and Germany and wants me to ‘give it a go Nan’ like I would let just anyone work on my heart !!! Anyone who really knows me knows I have to research everything and everyone to death before agreeing. I know there are some very knowledgeable people on here and would be interested to hear your views if you’ve ever heard of it. Thank you in advance.

Good afternoon

Thank you for your post on the Atrial Fibrillation support forum.

Hopefully a member of the support group can give you some knowledge of the PEMF's (Pulsed electromagnetic fields)

Kind regards

I’m all for alternatives to drugs but not something I would go for. Ask what does ‘big in Germany & America’ actually mean? Ask to see the research and development and what is more important - has it been approved for medical use for those with heart conditions. If not I would steer clear.

My understanding is great for pain and is used for bone, muscle & tendon problems and by Physios.

I used to use a PEMF mat before having my hips replaced- they are advised against if you have large chunks of metal in your body. It did not seem to have any affect on my afib but I have to admit my afib has got more frequent since I gave it to my daughter. But that could just be natural progression. I believe PEMF therapy is widely used in Germany.

I use PEMF and FSM (frequency specific microcurrent) in my practice.

The FSM current is in micro amps, unlike TENS which is in milliamps- - basically the same current our bodies produce, hence it does not create any spasm or tension like TENS.

My thinking was the AF situation is the electrical chaos in the heart, so we should be able to find something which would interrupt those signals. Sorry to say, I did not. I even sat in master classes with the developer of FSM and showed her my Kardia ECG during the break and we tried a few things together... to no avail. It baffles both of us!

What it does help with is to reset the Vagus Nerve, and I am using those protocols with a fair amount of success for myself and clients. I, nor any other practitioners I have spoken with, have found the Fxs to stop Afib. Hence at present, I treat clients for the conditions they have in parallel with AF, but not directly for AF.

I still have a loop monitor (ILD) implanted and it has no effect on the monitor - I did ask the EP prior to running FSM and PEMF and he said it would be fine. I never run FSM on a client with a pacemaker unless I have approval by their Dr and only run above the neck or below the waist.

Finally, if the PEMF or FSM helps your surrounding conditions, perhaps it will reduce your AF burden, but I did not find it to help the AF directly.

Hope this helps!

Thank you to all who replied am very grateful for your input.
