my AF seemed to be a little less lately, taking Bisoprolol when needed. Yesterday I went to play one of my activities and after an hour room started to spin. I stopped immediately and checked mr HR it was 178. I sat down took a PIP till it came down then drove home. I was the in AF for a few hours. my consultant has said not to stop my sports but I’m doubting it. now. Im 71.

l find any vigorous exercise can be a trigger for me. It is essential to exercise, but we have to listen to what our bodies are telling us. Also, this heat can add to the picture and dehydration is one to watch for when exercising. If you sweat then your electrolytes can get out of sync. Also perhaps you need to up your salt intake slightly during hot weather. Take care.

I think we Afibbers have to watch it more in the hot weather especially when we are getting on a bit! I have recently had problems with the heat giving me AF. I take Bisoprolol as you do. Can’t take it regularly as l have low blood pressure. It always works for me. The heart has to work harder in the heat and then excercise on top must have an effect. Everything in moderation Babs, l think is key. Keep well.

I think unless you are a trained athlete it is a good idea to restrict your exercise in hot weather(siestas in Spanish speaking countries are there for a reason. )I live in South Africa and at my age of 81 , my usual exercise is 30 mins a day on a static cycle (not Tour de France stuff) - but if the temperature goes above 30C, I give it a miss for the day and maybe have a peddle in the evening (depending on my mood) I always keep a stock of rehydration sachets in my First Aid drawer just in case!

Hi Babs,

I was on Bisoprolol for my AF for over ten years. 5mg each morning and if I went into AF I took a second dose. My attacks had become more frequent in the last two years so my cardiologist decided to transfer me to Dronederone. Still having a couple of attacks every month but I seem to recover into SR in two or three hours. I agree you should remain as active as possible. I am eighty-two. I have a brisk 2,750 step walk (according to my pedometer) every morning and a dumbell routine with a pair of seven pounders three times a week. Avoid stressful situations the best you can and practice a big smile in the bathroom mirror every morning. Best wishes.
