We are all different but BNP can be released if the heart is distressed enough I suspect.

Had to Google BNP which gave the result British National Party which caused my BP to rise.🤪 Found out what you meant in the end though.👍

All the best.

That’s all I thought it stood for too so I have no idea what it refers to here! Do please enlighten me.

Brain natriuretic peptide blood test, if numbers are high may suggest heart failure. But in AF I believe numbers would raise.

Gosh! I’ve never heard of that before- thank you.

I had BNP levels measured during an especially long Afib session and it was off the charts. Subsequently when not in Afib it was lower but still elevated. Eventually I was also diagnosed with heart failure. So as said, we are all a different and the levels of BNP vary according to age among other things, but my cardiologist believes that in my case my heart was under stress during Afib and BNP was elevated accordingly.

That's almost music to my ears, that was my understanding, thankyou

bnp is the blood marker of heart failure whose diagnosis is clinical and confirmed by echo. AFIB is just an aggravating factor.

hi Marymara,

My cardiologist and EP say that BNP goes up if AF is stressing the heart…meaning enough frequency and duration of episodes. Mine rose to super high during bad episodes of AF from Covid 8 months ago and stayed high during long Covid afterwards….then got a little lower when long Covid started improving and AF episodes became less… It was higher again after an ablation one month ago that gave me severe AF and other arrhythmias…

Before all of that BNP was normal.

I know, that's what Bob said if the treatment is stressed enough, I really don't know what's going on with me, AF, now diastolic heart failure I'm just guessing because my BNP levels and how I feel, now congenital problem found PAPVR, and pulmonary hypertention has been mentioned, I'm going crazy with worry, no doctors has confirmed heart failure or pulmonary hypertention, it's a nightmare just trying to piece it together myself.

Hi there, thanks for sharing. How long after getting Covid did your BNP stay high? Was it very high like 2000? Did your AF episodes increase or become persistent after Covid?

My dad's BNP got very high recently (over 2000) and I didn't realise it may be related to Covid.

Hi Priya,

My BNP was 3500 in November 2023 after having unrelenting AFIB for one month during acute Covid. After the acute phase was over, I continued with constant AF which was interrupted every few days with short lasting SR. By May, my AF episodes had diminished to every 5-7 days and lasted 1-2 days and the BNP level was 2500. After an Ablation in June, the level is 920 (still way too high)

The virus and my inflammatory responses attacked my heart and turbocharged my PAF. In addition, I now have mild heartfailure and severe mitral valve regurgitation and dysautonomia….obviously all this developed very quickly, since I did not have this before the virus infection.

My ablationist told me that, since Covid, he has seen many people like me, plus people who got AF for the first time AP after the infection….that’s why it is called a cardiovascular disease.

Really sorry to hear you've had to go through this and wishing you well. Normally when my dad gets AF his pulse goes very high and he feels the palpitations. However during covid we saw it was constantly changing between 60 and 85. We weren't sure if that was persistent AF. However reading this post has made me think that Covid has been doing more harm then we could see. Will speak to doctor on Monday.

Thanks for sharing your experience.

Later today measured on kardia 6l and pulse changing between 70 and 150

Thanks. The covid bit on greenbeast's post interested me as I'm trying to figure out my dad's high BNP which I believe may be due to Covid now.
