Hello (and thanks again to all who responded when I was about to travel last month -- I've had an interesting time with my heart not behaving as expected, but have managed to keep away from A&E so it's all good).
I'm on the waiting list for an ablation at Southampton. My cardiologist of the past six or seven years, with whom I had a good relationship, has just retired, which was a bit of a shock. My most recent telephone appointment (yesterday) was cancelled due to staff shortage, and in a separate call, someone else from the cardio team suggested that I ask to be referred to Basingstoke for the ablation, to cut down on the wait.
Does anyone have experience of cardiology and/or ablation at Basingstoke? Good or bad?

Only anecdotal. If memory serves, I read here Southampton is a centre of heart excellence. I would make what enquiries you can as to ascertain who will do your ablation and their record.
I've been very happy with Southampton but they are swamped. I have been told that the problem isn't shortage of staff, it's not enough beds or operating theatres. So I'm going to Basingstoke. I got the name of the consultant and looked him up. He seems sound.
sorry to hear of your Heart issues, I had several Cardiac ops at the Royal Brompton, then had a pacemaker recovery op/replacement in Basingstoke. I can fully recommend the Cardiac team in Basingstoke as my treatment and aftercare was 1st class, hope this gives you some confidence.
