No symptoms but.....?

I was diagnosed with afib about three years ago but with absolutely no symptoms and had an arthritis operation shortly afterwards which went very easily. I now have very slight breathlessness if I go up a steep hill and I do feel a bit tired in the middle of the afternoon but at 73 I'm thinking that's probably quite normal? I walk briefly about four miles a day without any discomfort. My question is this. Since around the time of the diagnosis, I began to gnash my teeth particularly badly during the night and the dentist advised me to wear a mouth guard. However I can't tell whether this is a side effect of bisoprolol and/or apixaban or whether it is some sort of connection to the afib, like subconscious anxiety? Don't feel stressed particularly and heart rate and pulse are always normal as measured on my health device. Max HR of approx 125 going up a hill.

Anybody any ideas?

I went into permanent A/F after an emergency hip replacement and did not know this, breathlessness/dizzyness etc.etc., took me to doctors time and time again until finally diagnosed, meds increased and now stabilised so, in my opinion, both the surgery and trauma was the cause. I have a pacemaker so the readings were traced back.

I had a mouth splint made to wear for a couple of years before ever being diagnosed with AF. I put it down to an overactive subconscious when suffering from work-related stress, and after a while I didn’t need it any more. Maybe you were just stressed by the diagnosis?

Yes could be, Drone. Thanks for the comment!

My friend, now the grand age of 90, has had permanent AF for very many years, and the symptoms you describe are exactly as he describes his own. If I am walking with him and we go up even a slight slope, he needs to stop for a second to catch his breath.

I would, however, have a chat with your GP, to be reassured, as each case of AF is different if only in the sense that each heart itself, and indeed bodily system, can have its own extra effects. For example, if we have high BP, an extra low heart rate, and so on.

Goodness, sorry for the many typos. I’m turning off slide to type and autocorrect permanently from now on.

I was diagnosed in 1992 with AF I have been on Warfarin thinners and now Apixaban. I moved from Bisoprolol to Nebrivolol as Bisoprolol gave me bad sleep patterns and is known for that. I would not think the Apixaban would do that but I would guess the Bisoprolol could cause night time issues. Going up slight inclines is a problem for me. I am in pretty much Permanent AF! I do also have a bucket full of conditions that do not help!

My problems start at my toenails and end at my scalp. In between, my lungs seem to be the best of the rest. Oh to be young again!
